And people say 10/22 are not accurate.

A lot of the aftermarket "match" barrels are junk. You really need to do some research to find out which ones are good. I've known a couple people who say how bad 10/22's are but they dumped their stock barrels right off the bat. One used a Butler Creek barrel and found out later that the chamber was crooked or something like that.
I've always found the stock barrel on mine to be just fine for what it's designed for. With the right ammo (Blazer or CCI Standard Velocity) mine will shoot 10-shot groups at 3/4" at 50yds with a scope. I won a 50-yard pumpkin carving contest with it a couple years ago.
Mine was bought new around 2011 so it isn't an old one.

They shoot well once you remember that Ruger designed them to be shot casually from a 10 round mag, not to be a precision bullet hose.

Get the barrel hot running big mags, firing steady, and of course they start to wander

My carbine is from the 80's as well.

Well my barrel from the 80s but my gun is from 94. Its a miss match. Seeing how well it grouped today. I dont think I'm going to bother with a aftermarket barrel. Just a better trigger.

Yes... I need to do something about my trigger too. Just not sure which parts/kit to be buying for it. It's just far too crunchy, and if it hasn't worn in by now it never will

Grab one produced since the mid 2k's and see if you can get the same results. (Hint: Highly unlikely).

Yeah, I love when people say ALL 10/22's can't shoot. Certainly, I have owned some that are worse then others with a variety of different ammunition.

These groupings were from a stock all weather carbine from the early 000's, using a cheaaaaap $80 bushnell scope. (which I have since upgraded to a much better scope to compliment it's accuracy. I was blown away that the highest velocity round was the most accurate.

I think were these rifles got the reputation of poor accuracy was from people only trying one or two different rounds, or, they just can't shoot. If you took my worse group, which was so bad I didn't even bother using it on the sheet ( Golden bullets ) one would say this rifle can't shoot. With some time, and different rounds, these rifles can shoot!

This paper is 1.5' X 1.5 for reference.

....And yes, I have the writing of a 5 year old girl, I'm aware.

i can put 20 rounds in the size of my thumb nail at 55 yards but my 10/22 cost me over 1500 to make so it bloody well better!

for interest sake im gonna take a couple of my 10/22's to the range this summer and compare them.

early 80's
early 90's
mid 00
2013 and a 2015
then 2 DAR custom jobs.

see how they all stack up to one another.

Im fairly impressed by mine the last time i went to the range i got some very good groups then plinked shotgun shells the rest of the time at 50 yrds rested with no bag with a 12x scope using crappy thunderbolts. The rifle is a 2013 compact with upgraded trigger unit but stock barrel.
Scored 8 rounds inside an inch and 2 fliers which i dont doubt was due to me.

I had a 90s barrel which i would say grouped inside a soft ball at 50 yrds

What's with the range work? It's non restricted, hit the bush. I shot close to 100 gophers at distances of up to 140 yards(measured) with a stock 16" compact barrel, a Tapco pistol grip stock, Trijicon RX06 reflex sight with 12 MOA triangle, power custom drop in hammer, and Golden bullet for ammo. Most were taken offhand, some rested from a fence post. Not my first 10/22 either and all have done just fine.

yep. we have had a 10/22 sense maybe 1994. and the rifles older then that. accuracy is nothing to snort at, theres a whole generation of headless rabbits because of that little 10/22. never had much of a problem hitting skeets sitting at 100yards and it has no upgrades.
