Vancouver. Cambie St. (near south end of Cambie St. bridge) All inventory gone as of 2 days ago.

I talked to the manager on duty to understand why. Apparently they'd been selling barely more than $100 per month in ammo and were losing "all" their profit to employee and customer theft. (They'd unlock the case and hand you the ammo. I suppose some people or employees were just walking out with it?)

He also mumbled something about Canadian Tire in general feeling uneasy about ammo, in light of some Alberta problems.

Apparently there's a new store opening on Grandview, owned by the brother of the guy who owns the Cambie location. He said that store may sell ammo.

In Vancouver it's a much better idea to buy your ammo from Reliable Gun or Lever Arms than a big generic store, but this place was a good Sunday option for .22LR and they sometimes sold .303 British ammo cheaper than anyone.

The local CT that stocks ammo usually has it 25% higher priced than any of the gun shops. A lot of the boxes are brown and rotting, but of course they'll let them decay and throw them out rather than lower the price.

I don't know what kind of problems they're having in the rest of Alberta. In Edmonton, the problem I have with them is that they never seem to have .22LR or .17HMR in stock. There are a number of stores in Edmonton, and whenever I go into one I check the ammo case. Lots and lots of empty holes on the shelves, and nobody who knows anything about it.

I've long since given up the expectation of finding ammo at CT. It's just a time wasting act of masochism even to bother checking.

I don't shop at CT, for all the usual reasons, so I'm not defending them, but in retail, if you have a product that isn't moving, you get rid of it and try something else. Nothing worse than giving valuable shelf space to something that doesn't move. What they shoulda done was reduce the price to clear it out.

Cambie just north of Broadway. I went into this store recently, lots of hiking gear for the Birkenstock crowd. I guess they want to compete with MEC down the street. Not a surprise that they stopped selling ammo.

If there was a cold snap this winter and people brought in outdoor BBQ's (purchased @ C T) for heat and died later due to poisoning would Cdn tire stop selling barbeques:rolleyes:

why i only buy rimfire at my local gun shop:

7mm Rem Mag.

CT price: 32.50 + tax
Gun Store: 44.99 + tax

.303 British

CT price: 18.99 + tax
Gun Store: 27.99 + tax

12 gauge, per 100 rounds:

CT price: 24.99 + tax
Gun Store: 45.00 + tax

i get a good deal on bricks of American Eagle at the gun store, so i buy it there. CT doesn't have bricks. i would love to support my local store, and not a big box store like CT, but i can't afford to pay that much extra. a few dollars is ok, and i do that for the gun shop on almost everything else, but their prices are so much higher than CT, i can't afford them.

if my local CT stops selling ammo, i'll be ordering it online. but i doubt they will, because they sell shotshells like crazy and basic calibres pretty quick as well.

If they were really only moving $100 a month in ammo, the shelf space isn't worth the drag. That is understandable, and all the better for Reliable et al.

Exactly what problems has CTC had in Alberta??? What, we buy too much ammo and they have to work to actually keep the shelves stocked??? I went into the 99 ave store a month ago looking for some bulk 12ga for some skeet shooting. Nothing in the case. I got the guy to go searching the back for 7 1/2 shot. He came back out with 2 100 packs of #8 and told me that they were the last two bulk packs in the store and I grabbed both of them.

It sounds like this guy was giving you the usual "I'll use any unprovable excuse that I can to get you out of my face" retail routine.

I used to work at CTC, as a head office employee. I believe they were considering removing the hunting department altogether in 2010. If you buy any ammo or gun stuff at Canadian Tire, start looking for new sources.

As far as I can tell, Leo in Savage harbour is the only one selling guns on PEI since CT stopped a couple(or more) years ago.

Crappy tire had 303 on sale for $19 a box for winchester.
But they don't stock any .22lr I like, or 7.62x39mm, or any pistol rounds.

So Savage Harbour is the only place on the Island I buy ammo that I want.

Wallmart's ammo is rotting by the looks of it.

some one told me the gun part in canadian tire is privitley ownd or run or something:D he said she said. but your right they do have a desent selection

some one told me the gun part in canadian tire is privitley ownd or run or something:

Corporate support for firearms was discontinued, so each dealer must obtain his license, source product and order inventory on his own. I remember finding the memo about this filed away with other product line information. I can't remember the date on it, it was around 2000 or so.

I had a store credit at CT I had to use for some other stuff I returned without a receipt. I figured I might as well get some .22LR. I got a 525 bulk box of Federal that was $21.99. Same box is $16 at WSS.

Heck ya!

Even have handgun ammo. Shooting supplies. South end of town.

Had a M305 on the rack and a Mossberg 590A1..........

That is because 90% of our ammo (I work there) isn't from the corporation. Since each Canadian Tire store is owned individually we do have some, but not nearly enough, creative control on what our store carries. For most of our ammo and all of our guns we go through our own distributors. So we do try and carry a large range of items, everything from Savage to Merkel. Currently there are only 6 stores left in Canada that sell firearms. The two in Alberta, us and Calgary on Macleod, but thats because we have the same owner.
