Hey guys. For a long time i tried to resist the temptation of getting an AR, but i gave up.. After reading a lot of "build vs. buy" threads, i decided to build my own setup. So here is what i came up with.. :)

Cadex CDX-15 Lower receiver
Vltor MUR-1 Upper receiver
YHM 9.6" free floating quad rail w/ YHM end cap. ( Since May 5th changed to Daniel Defense 12" Light rail)
NEA 14.5 Barrel
NEA Hybrid Muzzle brake
Vltor Low profile gas block
Fab Defense pistol grip (for now)
BCM Gunfighter Charging handle
Armalite SA BCG Nickel finish ( !! SCORE !! )
Magpul M93 Collapsible stock w/strike plate
NEA Lower Parts Kit.
JP Enhanced Trigger Spring set.
Burris AR-332 x3 Prism Sight.
KAC 45 degree flip-up micro iron sights
RRA 10rd. LAR-15 mags (in black) x4 joined together
Magpul P-mags...
Magpul MS2 Sling.

Here it is:

i'm also debating whether or not to put the AFG on..

I was originally planing to go with the S&J barrel, but while waiting for the new batch, i decided to try out NEA barrel. So once i'll have both barrels in hand i'll see if i can do a direct comparison report.. The only thing left before i can try it out, is to find a gas tube.. hopefully soon :)

What do you guys think? Any suggestions/ideas/questions??

I also wanted to mention a couple of issues i had during the build.. To be honest, i was really frustrated while assembling a lower with a NEA parts... First the mag release button wouldn't fit in to the hole, i had to trim/grind the button all around before i could push it all the way in so i could screw the release bar in.. then, the release bar wouldn't go in all the way like it should and mags wouldn't lock.... so i had to file the mag release bar as well. I got it to work properly, but i'm not happy seeing bare metal on those parts... Next problem was the bolt release pin, and i have to add, i have watched enough videos to know how to assemble the lower properly... So i grabbed the pin with n.nose pliers, put it against the hole, and start smacking it lightly with a small brass hammer, the pin went in about 2-3 mm. and got stuck, i tried to do it with a right size punch and a heavier hammer, but it was stuck solid... and i couldn't get the punch in from the other side because of the shape of the lower.. so i grabbed the free end of the pin with a wise grip and smacked the grip with a hammer several times.. grip would just pop off, without any movement on the pin.. i did that a few times, before i decided to tighten the end of the pin in the big bench wise, and use the rubber mallet on the receiver... at that point i was really mad.. after 10-15 attempts i was able to take what ever was left from the pin OUT... i ended up making my own pin and using it for now... So, if guys at NEA feel like sending me new mag release w/button and a proper size pin for bolt release i would greatly appreciate it.. Personally i think all three parts the mag release, the button and the pin were out of spec.. so i just managed to score a "lemon" while buying a parts kit from Target sports.... :(
I also have another question... I was trying to install the Vltor low profile Gas block on to the NEA barrel, but it was so tight from the very beginning that i would have to use the hammer and a punch to slide it on.. So i stopped and wanted to ask you guys if that's normal... there are still set screws on the bottom i dont see why it has to be so tight... i would literally take all the finish off from the muzzle to the gas port.. while trying to install it... ANY thoughts..???

Ok, so i got some range time with this beast.. :)

it worked flawlessly, i put about 200 rounds, no problems what so ever. I was impressed with the accuracy at 60 yards.. solid 1-1.5" groups all day long. Although at a 100 yards groups opened up to 3-3.5", i believe there is still a lot of room for improvement on my part... Practice, practice, practice :) Here are some pics..

Latest Update:

Changed the Quadrail to Daniel Defense 12" light, and was able to use the KaC Sights..

that is very ###y, how much was the total damage?(if you dont mind sharing)

the damage.. $3200 before taxes.. about $3600 total bill...

I know what you guys will say.. "Could buy MR 223 for that price.. " but i wanted to start with a DI AR and i wanted it to be as problem free as possible, so i tried to gather better quality stuff.. at least for the most part..
And i'll probably end up buying a MR 223 sometimes down the road anyways.. so this is a good start... :)

Nice work, how's the the JP trigger? 2 stage? Looking for a good inexpensive trigger for a DMR AR.

I'm a little more favorable to black barrels, but each to his own.... Definitely love that Cadex lower! Good choice!

I have a regular NEA trigger...JP was only the spring set.. and it is still in the mail, so i'll let you know how it is once i try it out...

As for the barrels, i also like matching barrels, and i am waiting for a S&J barrel as well, i wanted to do a comparison of those two barrels on the same rifle.. i'm positive that both barrels will have their pros and cons.. will see..
