Anti Family

Growing up, I wasn't even allowed to own a water pistol.

My mother frets over my collection of 35+ firearms. Just to drive her nuts, I tell her that if she'd simply allowed me to satisfy my curiosity about firearms when I was younger, things may have turned out differently. Drives her freakin' batty LOLOL

This is exactly what i told my mom as well and now she lets my kids play with toy guns when they are at here house, and is even ok that i bought the kids a 22 for christmas,
most of my family thinks guns are ok but only hunting guns, and all others should be banned, except for my sister who is a hardcore liberal suporter except she believes we should be alowed guns?? but she lives in Ottowa and is a reporter so it all makes sense i guess.

Were you eating any meat served by your aunt and uncle? That should clear up the hunting part for them.

These photos should pretty well sum up both my families and my wife's families view on guns/hunting

Maybe I'm having a language issue, but I think that's what they really meant by "shotgun wedding :D

I also grew up in a home where toy guns where taboo. My mother hated guns but my grandfather and all my uncles were hard core into hunting and shooting. They used to always invite me out to go hunting and shooting with them and my mom would absolutely forbid it. She honestly thought they where going to kill each other out in the bush by mistaking each other for deer and that if I went with them, they'd think I was a deer and shoot me!

WTF???

As soon as I turned 18, I got my Pal, my hunting license and off I went! You should have seen the look on her face when I brought home my first deer.

Since I started hunting, Her views have softened substantially and she even was curious enough about my flintlock muzzle loader to pick it up and check it out.

I now have my little sister (she is a adopted and one 7) totally into hunting. My mom doesn't seem to mind. She loves it when I bring home dead animals and is anxious to come out with me and go hunting when she gets a little older.

I grew up in a small town and even though my dad was a biologist and didn't hunt much he had a small gun collection. Now I had a lot of toy guns. I even remember painting my orange toy AK47 gray. Guns were not a big deal to me. I didn't have any real guns but wasn't for or against them just like i am not for or against compound miter saws.

Now fast forward to today i am 31 and decide i will take my grandfathers guns as he is moving into an assisted care faculty and has no room for them.

The response from both sides of the family is unanimous. "It is about time, every man (I know a bit ###iest) should have a gun." Even my wife loved shooting my dads guns and is going to get here pal so she is comfortable with them in the house. I expected a few antis the show up. But not a one in the family yet. Most are liberals GASP!!!

Likely because grandpa always had guns. Some Liberals can see that guns arent evil.

I would be willing to bet most Liberals see guns aren't evil. Most Liberals even most people just don't care about them one way or the other. Now I am from the maritime and guns don't have the stigma attached to them you may get in the bigger cities like Montreal, Toronto. Halifax could be the exception but I cant say. We have so little gun violence hell we have so little violence period no need to demonize guns. Maybe per capita it is the same but less stories for the media to jump all over equal less panic.

We used to try and argue our point but now in my family it's kind of an unspoken thing. There's some gun owners in my family and a few people who are..very against them and we just happily pretend the other side isn't the way they are. Works well for us.

My family and in-laws are the exact opposite. Guess it depends on how they grew up and how influenced they are by the main stream media.

I suggest offering to show them what the CFSC entails and take them out shooting and hunting. They'll realize that you're not out there clubbing baby seals at every corner.

totally..

Moms side.. parnets were and are farmers... ok guns good...

Dads side.. Parnets were farmers and served in the military ww2 great ww1.. Guns good (grandmother hated them... because my grandfather shot a rat in the house with the kids in the next room were the rat was walking.. bullet went in the rat and into the wall grandmother never let him live it down so he hide his gun) I found it several years after he passed away and was like O grandmother I found this gun in the rafters.. she was like O throw it away in the trash I was like who was it o it was your grandfathers... So I ended up with it.. still got it too.. it sucks that she threw away his military rife though.. a browning machine gun.. O well... would of been cool to have..

I know of only one JW gunnutter. Amongst thousands. I once asked if the elders (the higher-ups) of the congregation had an issue with firearms and hunting, I was told they didn't have an issue with hunting for sustinence. Going target shooting may raise eyebrows, however. Especially with an AR or a handgun. Growing up, I wasn't even allowed to own a water pistol.

If you would like I could make it two amongst thousands, because yes I am a JW and a gunnutter albeit noob. While I don't yet own any restricted's I do have a RPAL and hope to own some as soon as my disposable income goes up. As far as "getting out" my three brother's got out and we are still the best of friends. Like gunnutz/hunters JW's are subject to plenty of misconceptions, and it's a shame more people don't take the time to ask questions before passing judgement.

I'm also an avid outdoorsmen who really enjoys rock climbing. If your ever wanting to be looked upon with severe contempt and disdain, while climbing mention that you also hunt. While I see the two as complimenting each other I'm sure if most climbers could have the death penalty reinstated they would send all hunters to the chair.

And just because I can't resist I'll end off with a classic JW joke.

Why dont JW's like halloween?

Because they hate it when people knock on their door and bother them!:D:D

mmm...so this is your Aunt? Seriously? Who gives a fu*k what your aunt thinks? typically you only see aunts on special occasions. Buy her kids cap guns, bb guns and take her husband to the range to try shooting. When you get back, invite her and make light of the situation that women are typically better shooters than men, then invite them both out. Next think youll have a family of people that want to go shooting. Really, everyone wants to do, it. Theyre just worried what everyone else will think. As soon as we get Everyone shooting, it'll be the anti's that have to form a secret society.

On a side note, as for JW's not hunting (?); Im shocked, cause those people are BREEDERS. How does one guy feed 8 kids if he isnt out harvesting at least 2 moose and 3 deer a season? No idea how they feed their families...

Great thread! Personally, I come from a Mennonite family which means that they are Pacifist.:p Naturally you would think they dont like guns, but it seems everyone has gone hunting or shooting before. Especially my uncle who lives in Fort St John(where im hoping to get a plains Bison this year):) I remember a few years ago when my Aunt was engaged to be married, and her 4 brothers got together to take pictures of themselves holding shotguns and smoking cigars while lookin real mean, so that they could send the pictures to her fiance with a letter asking about his intentions. Obviously coming from a bunch of pacifist Mennonite guys, this was a complete joke, and was received very well by my new Uncle Tom:D

Would I tell them about my restricted guns? hehe you shouldn't tell your family everything! ;)

My wife's family was a little bit anti-gun when I met them.. Was doing a match and I was putting stuff away after cleaning them and asked my mom to pass me one from the other side of the table.. You'd think it was a mouse.... But My wife is cool with it.. She has her SKS... and a Ruger Mk II that are "HERS"
