mayb move to a smaller town?:dancingbanana:

Same here, sort of. Once I bought a gun from CT and they didn't have the box so just handed it over like that, no case nothing. Got a few looks but no swat team arrived or anything. I had to walk a few blocks to my car right through the shopping section of the city. This was about 20 years ago though...wouldn't want to try it now.

Change the rifle...

That..is...just......wrong.......ugh!!!

I'd call the local PD etc and tell them you are in the area first. Should you HAVE to? NO, but your concern about getting shot accidentally is very valid...our society has become very emotional and reactionary. There have been more than a few stupid cases, like the guy who was killed for wearing a coat that was out of season in England.

Yes, I suggest you read up on what happened to Johnathan Logan.

wow,
I have a CZ-858 and if I was marching through some semi-populated area dressed in my cadpat I would fully expect someone to call the police. I would expect get treated in a somewhat less than civilized manner as far and getting proned out and searched......I shoot mine at the range and places where people commonly shoot.....I would take my rifle hunting but keep it cased or less visible in my vehicle.....use common sense....

Police have several issues to deal with when they respond to "a man with a gun" call....first and foremost, safety, for themselves and others....investigation will start when the safety aspects are looked after....often the information provided to a dispatcher by the member of the public who called them will have alot to do with the "level" of response.....

This is not the same world as small town B.C. where I grew up in the 60s. I was 7 and I could trample off shooting gophers with my .22 almost anywhere I pleased....times have changed....that little town is now overgrown with bikers and grow ops....so guess how the cops respond to gun calls there now.....

Dressing like GI Joe and carrying something that to 99% of the Police and Public looks like a 'machine gun' will bring you as much attention (or more) than I think anyone wants.....

Often these "the cops did this" or "the cops did that" stories have a whole lot of info left out....and if the cops screw up follow the complaint process.....
Creating paranioa does not help anyone.......

Wear a Lieberal Party membership card around your neck. Everybody in Law Enforcement understands that for the last 20 years Lieberals have been exempt from most criminal law.

I hunt gophers with my chest rig on and the Armalite. I'm often accompanied by a friend who carries a PE90 and has a load bearing vest. No, we're not out playing commando, we just have our vests loaded out for shooting. Extra mags, binos, ear plugs, etc.

To date the only problem we have had is one of the neighbors didn't recognize us and didn't wave back as he dove by.

Chances are if you are out shooting in a legal area there will be no commotion... if you are doing target practice downtown - cops will show with guns blazing.

The only problem I've ever had was at a checkstop on highway 16 by Edson, when some rookie pulled out my cartidge belt full of marlin .444 shells and started to go into some wacky "Do you have an unregistered handgun in your truck" I reply "no" He then squeals "Do you have a registered handgun in your truck" At this piont all the people in the truck were laughing our asses off and told him to maybe get someone who had a sniff about firearms over to show him the difference. The senior constable showed up gave me back my evil cartridge belt and we were on our way.

Mind you...Had it been Ontario I probably wouldn't be posting this. I love Alberta.

IF I go hunting I would wear something warm and within' the law. If I was taking an "unsual" type of semi-auto, I would also take my paperwork (when I say unusual, I mean something the average hunter does not use; most use bolt action or pump, or semi-auto .22). I would wear whatever I felt like wearing (ie: snow camo and the works, and carry extra mags pinned to 5 rds).

I'm not sure what you mean. As long as you have your registration papers with you, simply show the police, and that's it.

Sure.. tell that to this guy...

All it takes is one sheeple to call the cops, and your life could be ruined. Unlikely.. sure.. but it can and does happen.. This is not the only person who was "taken down" with guns drawn and ready to shoot.

lack of training, lack of information/ the correct factual information. abuse of power. Sounds like these officers were not able to control there emotions and anxiety. It takes a while to develop that, but it does not excuse there actions.

and that dumbass was wearing camo shooting near a school - he deserves the attention and abuse.

if I was blasting gophers with AR180b , the last thing i would wear is camo, that screams nutjob to me.

anyone else think camo is nutz? in this context...

So you're saying Police's action was justified?

All I have to say to that comment is...

What the hell?

I can wear what ever the hell I want! Last I check it was a mostly free country.

heres the things most cops are hero wanna be'sthey wanna win medals and get awards from the mayor for there curagious acts in the oppression of civil liberty

the police where called on me when an ex accused me of bringing a fire arm to school one i didn't even have an air gun in the city i live in and after they found no fire arm they held me untill they could find something they could charge me on which was another false charge but my lawyer said she likly pulled that stunt to ad credit to her accusations which would have taken a year to get through even though though the case had many missing documents such as that fact that chat logs where sited and never shown why cause it doesn';t look good on the crown atterny when the to have a chat log that shows attempts to cource the deffendant into commiting murder

cops will freak out they want to go to the call and have the suspect come out guns blasing so they can be a hero

OK, as a responsible civic minded citizen, I understand you have to be careful of what you do. But...
In Canada, where police's ignorance could even rival those of some U.S. states, civil liberty, in many cases, are just an illusion. Maybe Jonathan Login shouldn't have been wearing a camo, although I don't see why that is important, but this was rural community, not in the middle of the city. He was, as the article stated, more than 300m from the school, WITHIN private property, hunting with permission. If there is any of his actions that violated law, I don't know what.
We now live in society that sacrifices common sense, in order to satisfy the need for action of the very governing institute that WE have elected. We put them in their position, and now they rule over us, like some Oligarch, and we are forced to be afraid.
This, my firends, simply won't do.
