has been in my family since its production over 100 years ago, was givin to me by my aunt in which it used to be my grandpa's. It was his dad's as well, and I don't know the story any further than that, I should ask her though...
No idea on its worth, but its sentimental value is priceless, I want to make some snider cartridges for it one day, but I cannot find the brass. Primers and bullets are not an issue, just the brass. If anyone knows where to get it, please PM me.

I have fallen in the ways of sin once again :>) A couple of days ago I bought what I believe to be a Swiss army rifle. The maker's name Ritshart dates the gun to 1838 - 1842 and the design is extremely similar to the later and smaller caliber Swiss federal rifle (.41 cal) This one is .58 cal in excellent condition and sights graduated to 800 yards or meters. Still has the original ramrod. I wish it still had the original bayonet which appears to have had a tapered octagonal handle. The whole gun is extremely well made.

Sight could be graduated in schritts (paces). One schritt = 28 in IIRC. Swiss used this unit until the 1870s.

A friend in Switzerland sent me a history of the gun and the sights are indeed in schritte so the maximum range would be around 450 - 500 yards. Turns out Switzerland did not unite and have a common army until 1851 and this gun was for the canton or state of Bern and the type was used from 1831 to 1851. About 2/3 of them have been relined to .41 cal which was the caliber of the federal rifle (also a muzzle loader). My best guess is that the bayonet was cruciform like french bayonets and possibly offset to the side. That would more or less describe what was used on the federal rifle of 1851.

Nice gun Doug!
Thats a very nice looking Rifle!
Speaking of Switzerland!!
I imported this rare Antique S&W that chambered for the 44 S&W Cartridge From Switzerland but it also chambers the 44 Special.
I shoot the Winchester cowboy factory 44 Special Ammo in it.

This gun aparently was used to kill a few Nazis :D
It has great history!
Its the Long Cylindered S&W same cylinder and frame used on there 44 40 Revolvers. But this was a 44 S&W calibered gun and wont chamber a 44 40
This gun is a tack driver with 44 special even with its short 4 inch barrel. :)

Maybe not classed as antique, but I was shooting my 1895 ( made in 1912) Nagant revolver, for the first time today. It is super accurate. Which is important, as I don't shoot worth a damn.LOL We used correct 7.62 Nagant and .32 S&W Long wad cutters. The .32's swell up, but we had no problems extracting them. A very pleasant and accurate gun to shoot. IMHO

Well hempydaves gona win the one on GB i can bet ya money on that! :D
That guys a Canuck in AB

You talking about the one that's damn near mint (just a couple of freckles)? I'm in no rush - missed out on a couple of BINs for $700 - the firewall at work blocks it so when they tell me "Yes, I'll ship to Canada" at 9:00am, at 5:00pm when I get home they're gone. Ah well, one of these days.

edit - Saw the one you're talking about. He seems to be willing to spend quite a bit on a reblue.
