Any 358 Win Lovers out there?

In a "how stupid can I possibly be?" moment I sold an M70 Featherweight in .358. That ranks right up there with the M70 featherweight in 6.5x55 I sold, revealing my occasional complete lack of rational thought.

I just keep all the guns I buy nowadays. Don't wanna look like an idiot anymore!

Also, 1000th post. Yay me.

Dont worry MickyB we have probably all done that before.
I have sold a couple that i regret now but just remember it was probably important and the time.
Hey I would have bought a Win M70 in 358!!

This is on my wish list.
The urge is gitting stronger every time a post like this comes up.
Anyone wish to trade one for ???????
Pm if you have one needing a new home.

I have an older Mossberg 1500 (made by Howa) in 358. Fun to shoot as it kicks like a mule. I am just starting to play around with factory ammo options, and will likley take it out this deer season after I put it in a new stock.

I have my new used BLR ready to go to the Deer woods in November. Should be interesting.
200gr. soft points with H4895 at around 2500 fps. I'm thinking the deer will surrender as soon as they see me.
257 Roberts

Hornady has sent a shipment of 358 Win to Canada recently,
I believe they are 200 gr loadings.Qther than that I think Win 200gr
silvertips are the only other and they only make a batch every few years.
This is basically a reloaders cartridge for now.
I like to use 250 gr bullets to take advantage of the 35 caliber.
Moose dont like these at all!

Thanks for that ammo tip. I'll watch for the Hornady's. I have some Winchester on hand, but not many left. Got a BLR in 358, but for some reason, she doesn't seem call my name loud enough on most hunting mornings!

Not a huge selection of bullets either for the reloader.

That's the reason why my build will be .338 Federal. Even if the factory ammo dies off I can resize .308 brass and there is a large assortment of .338 bullets to choose from.

For my use the available bullet selection is more than adequate.
My Frontier works well with cast bullets for my 357 for plinking or a 280 gr. cast originally made for my 35 Whelen and the selection of jacketed from 200 gr. up to and including 250 gr. is all I realistically need.
As for brass, one pass with a 308 case over a tapered expander and you have a .358 same as for a .338 Fed.

I have nothing against the .338 Federal, its a fine round.
A wildcat I had decades ago was called a 338/08... same thing. :)

The old "huge selection of bullets" arguement gets old after a while. There's plenty of bullets out there for a 35cal shooter and most guys would only shoot one or two bullets in a rifle like a 338 or 358 anyways.

How many bullets do you regularly use in your 338Federal after you found a load?
