Any actual field reviews of the 110 round gsg drum mag?

Well I got suckered in and bought one of these things. I have put 330 rounds through it and its not reliable at all. It picks up every round and shoots maybe only 5 rounds at most before it wont fully close the bolt with a bullet half in the chamber. I filed the lips very slightly to eliminate the spots where the bolt was rubbing slightly and made no difference. Its like there is too much spring tension and force pushing up on the bullets in the neck and it makes them hard to slide out compared to a butler creek mag. For now its a novelty/expensive paperweight. Anyone have this problem also?

I had that problem with mini mags. federal bulk, no problem.
Now it seems (~1000 rounds) that the feed/dummy strip has come loose from the drum, so it is no longer functional. It says do not dissassemble, but I don't see another option. How much spring tension could there be? Hold my beer and watch this! :D

I see the fix is a few pages back, got to unwind the spring inside the mag some. I wasnt impressed with the plastic bullet strip either, seems like a huge weak spot. You should send yours back for warranty.

More hassle than its worth. Discarded packaging, filed head. (modified they will say)
Worked awesome until it didn't ;-)
I will tinker with it.

Edit:
Also, both pins are a little loose.

Tried in synthetic stock, still extremely tight after filing to snug in SR and birch stock.

Tried it this weekend in rather sub-zero weather. It was loaded with Stingers. Had one FTF/FTE 40 rounds in but that was due to a Stinger dud getting stuck in the chamber. Pulled it out manually, the rest of the drum fired until it was empty. Still good to go and loving this drum mag!

I took the Black Dog 50 round drum out as well, it was loaded with CCI Blazers and it jammed after about 15 rounds and couldn't clear it. I'm throwing the Black Dog out; it's crap. One H3C mag jammed, the other was AOK. One BX25 jammed, the other was OK. All the steel lip Butler creeks loaded and fired fine, as usuall.

So, after my tests, the only things I care to buy or would recommend to people are the 25/30 round plastic Butler Creeks with steel lips, and the GSG 110 round drum mag. Everything else is either too expensive or doesn't work well enough.

On an ammo note: I'm only going to keep two kinds of 22 ammo in my inventory from now on: CCI Quiet-22 for the Savage bolt-action rifle, and CCI Stinger for the 10/22s.

Yeah :( I wish I could find decently priced NON-WAXED copper-washed/not-plain-lead bulk ammo. But I refuse to use crap that means I have to stop every 5 shots and clear a jam, and the stingers are damn clean and well made.

Haven't heard of that issue, especially with 3 different 10/22's.... I'm sure any kind of "damage" to the feed-head would void a warranty. Swap that puppy out for a new one!

gcdavidson: if it's because of the slight flare at the bottom, then check earlier in this thread (or is it another thread?) where pics were posted of the area that needed to be filed and showed what it looked like after. It's only a couple minutes with a file, though yeah, I'm assuming it would void a warranty.

Well I finally got mine working 100% flawless now, cci mini mags did the trick. Blue box bulk federal just don't have enough reliability and power to Cycle the bolt back far enough to get that running head start needed to push the next one fully into the chamber. I now love my drum mag.

Any other reviews cci's would be to dam expensive to shoot a ton of. My 10/22 has no problems at all with federal bulk normally.
