Any DAN WESSON Revolver Fans Out There? You May Want To Have A Peek At This......

lol!! I really have no idea how to hold it properly..... Maybe a bench rest or beanbag? Full length tripod? And the holster is out. Maybe I can pull a little red wagon along to drag it around. :) Seriously though I did find a set of custom Wesson target grips with a thick thumb rest that looks like it may add some support. Just a few more inches and it would be 26" OAL. Can you imagine that?

The 15" was meant for silhouette shooting at metal cutouts of animals. You lay down on your back with one or both knees raised and if right handed you rest the barrel along the outside of your right calf for support. USE A CALF PROTECTOR to avoid possible powder burn and make sure the cylinder is not in contact with your leg. One drawback is only using one hand to hold the revolver. Never seemed practicle to me. I had a full Pistol Pac back in the 70's and wore the belt buckle and had the patch sewn on my jean jacket.

Very good info thanks cor sharing it. I've never really paid much attention to silhouette shooting before but it is a neat part of the history. The DW pistol pac was very innovative for it's time. Did any other manufacturer offer quick change barrels with different lengths included from the factory? CZ needs to do something with this brand they could really move some units.

I am not aware of other manufacturers having interchangeable barrels but Dan Wesson had an earlier incarnation that people called the "Ray Gun" because it had a part sticking out that made it look a bit funny. My experience was that it was tricky getting the gap perfect when I changed barrels as once you set it, it would always move a hair when assembling the shroud over the barrel. I had some issues with lead spitting out the side but it could be partly my inexperience at the time. I was tempted to try shooting it with no barrel attached but never did, lol. That would be the ultimate snubby...talk about prohib....

you had to go as far as ohio to find a dan wesson? Ouch. I realized I liked the looks the moment I saw it, and the barrel swap is ingenious. Fingers crossed the CZ brings them back...

Ohio is where I had to go to get the 15" version they are quite rare. What's interesting with DW these days is they appear to have a range of various models available in CO2 pellet guns which I assume must be liscenced through CZ. Maybe one day we'll get to see the real deal again.

Eric Kovachic (think I got the name right) is the man whose company makes new barrels for the Dan Wesson. He also supplies parts to Brownells. I tried ordering through him a few years ago but no go. You could probably arrange for a distributor to have his stuff brought up though. ewkarms. com

There was one more thing I remembered about the Dan Wesson Pistol Pack I had. At the gun shop where I bought it in 1977-78 they were selling Dan Wesson accessory solid block mahogany grip blanks which were properly drilled for the revolver (as you know if you have taken the grips off there is just a stub and not a full frame like colt or S&W). You could carve the blank into any kind of custom grip you wanted. I couldn't carve worth a d--n so the one I bought sat for years till I sold the whole package. It would be cool to find one of those i bet.
