I think you lose too much velocity going shorter, but if the interest is more for a 16", we'll go with that.

Not as much velocity loss as one would think vs 18.5" and it would be a handy dandy bush and "snake in the grass" hunting rifle.

The stevens, even with that long forend, with a 16inch tube, and I would happily send you more of my cash.

16" in either a Stevens or the Savage would be GREAT!

Thinking a it would be a perfect trunk gun.

If it's the Stevens, adding a stripper clip guide would make it that much more handy IMHO

The extra touches on a Savage just aren't worth the extra money to me...unless you can source some ten round mags at a good price.

It's a fine stock, with minor work it can be made rock solid. My personnal preference is for a budget bush gun that I can tweak and customize later.

A shorter forend would be great, but hey, owners can always replace the regular one if they want, which I would do.
