Is this the same finish on Savage's LE line, like the model 10FP and the model 10 Precision Carbine?

They have a bead blasted & blued finish.

If you want your wife to be happy slip a diamond ring on her finger, 15 second time. Screwdriver work isnt the issue I'm referring to, it's cost.
I realize one set up can't suit anyone but I'm posting my thoughts on this. After thinking about this through a curling spile I think I'd actually prefer no sights as well, I'd end up putting a scope on it anyway. But for a gun like this I could well be in a minority on that.

Luckily my girl ain't interested in diamonds and jewelery...

Drilling and tapping for the scout setup plus the mount shouldn't add much to the cost.

Maybe $10-$15.

Dudes, you can already have one of those built. A rifle with a 16" tube... not so easily.

So with the setup that has been settled on can a guy take off the scout mount and peep sight setup and mount a scope in the normal position still? If so I am totally buying one.

I think what he means is that you can legally buy a 16" barrel but you can't legally cut to that length.

Has this been decided on?
My choice would be the Savage with detach mag 16"-18" barrel no sights. In my opinion a great mountain setup.
I am curious there does not seem to be much interest in the 260 caliber what are the negatives of this.
I like the Ruger compact but it does not have a detach mag.There does not seem to be many choices for the 260 with a detch mag in a affordable light weight setup.

No Savage FACTORY barrel exists in a 16 incher right now, so you can't just go up to Shillen and order a 16" barrel from them for your rifle.

I think you're incorrect. Remington doesn't produce (to the best of my knowledge) a 12" barrel for an 870, but you can buy a Dlask 12" for it. Ruger doesn't produce 10/22's with 12" barrels, but you can purchase one and install it. If Shillen was willing to produce a 16" barrel you could have it installed on your rifle legally as far as I'm aware.

OK, I worded it poorly, what I meant was that you can buy the rifle legally with a stock barrel <18" (18.5?) but can't modify it to that by cutting. And by "can buy" I mean IF this rifle is offered by CanAm. And IF you have a PAL. AND if you have enough money OR credit to do so. I think I've covered the bases well enough to avoid a caps lock reply this time.

I am in the market to buy a stevens/savage right now but will hold off if these will be here before hunting season. I understand that the platform has not yet been decided on but is there even a rough idea of when these could be here? also do we know if they will have the ability to have a scope mounted on them?

There was a hoopla over 870 Express barrels cut by a wholesaler down to 14" and sold as factory. Search around CGN, some people got seizure notices. 14 inches is now officially off the "legal" size list.

Nothing wrong with a 14" barrel.....maybe you are thinking of the 16" remington blued (not express) barrels that were cut by a govt. agency and then sold as surplus.

Nope.
But the barrel must be "manufactured" as less than 470mm. Not necessarily by the original factory; but by a recognized manufacturer.
