I've had quite a few of them over the years, still have three. A 308 scout rifle, a 284 lightweight sheep gun I built up decades back, and a 222 walking varminter (which is torn apart at the moment for refinishing). Great hunting rifles, though I never cared for the plastic floorplate. There are aluminum and steel replacements, however. Thought about trying to fit a dbm on one, but never got around to trying it. - dan

I've never owned one but have admired them since first seeing them.

I'm a lefty, have a LH rem 788 rebarreled to 6.5 CM. If the mohawks came in a LH configuration I would definitely own a 350RM and maybe a 6.5RM.

Sweet combination, ahead of their time.

Mine was originally a 35 Rem, and very well known shooter up here had it rechambered. It’s been Bert’s rifle for the past 40 years or so.

The stock eventually gave up, and he had it put in a Ramline. That one caved in as well, and we fixed it up with two deck screws through the stock behind the recoil lug and couple of tablespoons of Marine Tex. Never budged again.

250 gr Speer spitzers ahead of 45gr of Ball C2 and magnum primers is quite a mitt full.

Those in original 35 Remington would be scarce as hen's teeth. I'm not sure I saw that rifle when I was there.

Sounds like Bert got his money's worth out of it. Is he still hunting?
 
He’s still at it every Fall. Heading out this Thursday with Pastor Colvin.

Even used that rifle and load for sheep hunting. Beware the man with only one gun….. he knows how to use it!

I had 3 of 'em yrs back that were very nice to pack around & accurate. My ones were in 223, 243, & 308. The only thing about the Mohawk that bugged be was the plastic bottom plate & trigger guard unit. Good thing is, that proper bottom metal has been available since shortly after these rifles came on the market.

It might be, however the action is far too short. You might barely get by building in 300 WSM, but there will be a lot, a lot, of work.

I have recently (3 ish years) became a fan of them. 600, 660 and 600 Mohawk. In .308, .222 and .223. I’m getting a Douglas 20”, 338 federal for the 308 to make a moose gun.
Nice handy little guns. :cool:
