The M27 is an AMAZING piece of hardware. The fit and finish on it is a cut above any other revolver outside of custom shop gun. That being said, the M28 is the same gun, only with a less expensive finish on it.
I once heard an old LEO in the US say that the M27 is the gun you buy yourself, while the M28 is the gun you buy for your employees.
Really though, the M27/28 is a large N frame that is no longer being made today. ALOT of guys prefer the 686 because it is lighter, it's smaller, it is still in production, and it was made with more available configurations.
My favorite range S&W is my 686-3 6" full underlug combat masterpiece with adjustable 4-pos factory front sights. SWEET. :twisted:
I also may be alone in that I actually PREFER the original wood factory Target grips over the modern Hogue and Pachmayr offerings... :roll: Have tried the options out there, yet my gun stil lwear original S&W walnut. Strange, but true.
