Ordered a Vision King as an entry-level optic.. We'll see how she goes.. It'll probably arrive just as I get my first poodle shooter. Is there a reasonably priced, easily removable mount so I can switch to BUS if anything happens to the scope?
I just ordered an ADM Recon SW mount from OSTS and I'll be ordering a VX-R Patrol 1.25x4 for my XCR to go with a new set of Troy BUIS. My experiences with optics is generally you get what you pay for. Sometimes you pay a lot and get less than your dollars worth and sometimes you pay a little and get more than your dollars worth. The latter is a much shorter list. I hope the vision kings work out, some cheap optics do perform above their price range. The best of the cheap flat top mounts is the Burris PEPR non-qd around $100 I think. You should be able to get a deal in the EE. Another cheap option is a 3/4" riser from eBay with the big carry handle-like thumbscrews that can be undone with a coin. Add some cheap rings for the height you want and off you go. Could be done for $20 on eBay.
The standard model uses hex nuts with flathead slots. They could be removed with a coin, screwdriver or improvised tactical screwing device. The PEPR is also available with QD mounts like the ADM but I don't know what the price is.
$20 extra.. $125 @ Wolverine.. I'll probably go with that... By the way, is that how BUIS are mounted, so you have to remove the scope? I've never even held an AR, so I'm still unsure on all the ins and outs.
I've got a Nikon M-223 on one of mine and love it!
That's the joy of modularity! Folding BUIS is the way to go. Ideally having your rear sight folded with the ocular bell of the scope sitting above it. When you want to switch just swing the throw levers on the mount and remove it, then flip up your iron sights. Exactly which AR are you getting? With a fixed front sight and 1.5" height mount your front sight will obscure your view through the scope. You wont be able to cowitness the irons through the scope so its one or the other. With fixed sights you will need a taller mount to clear the irons. With folding sights you can use a 1.5" and have the same cheek weld with scope and irons.
