The DPMS rifles that are more combat orientated cost more. The base rifles are meant for varmint/target and hunting. It's not geared for combat.
However the bull barrel varmint/target rifles are the ones that people have had good success with accuracy wise. Considering I'm shooting range use only (BS restricted weapon stuff), this fits the bill.
Would I take the Target LR-308 out to Iraq or A-Stan. Nope. My requirments are a bit different and are aimed more for accuracy, less for combat dependability.
As a range gun, the target Lr-308 rifle is pretty nice and at a good price point.
I don't really know much about the other models, other than they appear to have the common items for combat. Dust covers shell deflectors, flash hiders etc. The target ones don't have these features and as a result they cost less.
The Armalite may very well be a better rifle. However after putting in a $140 RRA NM trigger for the DPMS, the Armalite is still $1000 more.
