As long as the current C-17/C-68 Firearms Act remains in place the future ownership of all firearms, but especially the dreaded "semi-automatic" rifle and pistol, will remain in jeopardy. The Opposition have made them their boogeyman within the context of the political battle over gun control. Any Canadian gun owners, hunters, Fudds and shotgun sports guys included, who fail to stand with us on the issue of semi-autos, or who have somehow convinced themselves that they don't have any skin in this game are deluding themselves. Just look to Australia. The various gun groups and special interest groups spent more time fighting each other, pretending that nothing was wrong or actively throwing fellow gun owners under the bus in a vain attempt to protect their "good" guns. Instead of putting aside petty differences and focusing on their real enemies, Aussie gun owners effectively cut their own throats. Tragically, by the time they figured this out it was too late. As a wise man once said, those who fail to learn from the mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them. For some unfathomable reason there are certain elements within our own firearms community that seem hell-bent on following suit.
