Hey all,

Currently getting the .223 Remington bug, and I'm wonderong if I should go for a 180 or a Mini 14....give me your thoughts please.

Price is definately a factor, so no stupid posts about an AR15 or an SL8 please.

I also want non-restricted, as this will be a varmint gun, and I'll scope it.

Mini 14 isn't a varmint gun.......not accurate enough. More of a "barn" gun.....as in lucky to hit the broad side of one with it.:)

I think an 180b would be the better choice (even though I did have a Mini14 years ago, and liked it, it is a handy little carbine, kinda like a grown up M1 .30 carbine). The 180b will be more accurate, better accessories (Stormwerkz comes to mind), cheaper mags (I think), and shoulders nicely. I'm planning on getting a 180b end of summer or so.

A few months back I had the pleasure of shooting a guys mini 14 at PoCo rod and Gun in Van that was INSANE. Such a sweet rig...BUT me thinks he did a TON of work on her as pretty much nothing was stock. I guess the ol' perfume on a pig analogy comes to mind...Still that was a sweet smelling piggy!

given the choice, I'd like to own the AR180b. unfortunatoy they are getting hard to come by. the makers have shorted the barrel makeing it restricted in Kanucistan. and the current owners of the non-restricteds seem to be holding on to them. the new verison rugers, I hear, are better then the older ones. just my 2c

Cheers,

Armalite is still making the non-restricted version for Canada. Check out Wolverine Supplies web.

Ass said, Armalite is still making the non-restricted rifles for Canada and other gun hating states like Commiefornia. The reason they are hard to come by is that only a fraction of current manufacture is still the non-restricted versions and then most of those stay in the states.

I was thinking of selling off my AR180B, but with Wolverine adding significant accessories - eg Midwest Industries tactical 4 rail forearm, etc. , it opens up a lot of new things to customize one's 180-Bravo, including some cool AR15 stuff. Now if they'd just make a forged or cast lower for the Bravo...:beerchug:
