AR180B or a Mini 14

Although the mini-14 / ranch rifle isn't particularly accurate, it is reliable. I can't think of any other semi-auto rifle of a military design that is made in stainless steal.

PE90 to name one.

I've never had any issues with my AR180B rusting. I've also NEVER had a jam or FTF in my AR180B after a 5 cent tweek. I'm going on 2000 rounds with zero FTF's.

Just to be fair, did the "A-TEAM"ever kill anybody?

No, it was "family show" with moral values, typical in the 80's. Bad guys were usually tied up and arrested. Of course, this was after 6000 rounds were fired, 10 jeeps rolled over and one magic invention built by the team was used :).

Good memories though.

Well they really used

ever watch the A-team?? notice how nobody ever got hit with all the a teams gunfire...they used mini 14's.......

AC556's but know I'm splitting hairs:):D

The A-Team somehow managed to blow off more ammo per half hour episode than was used during the seige of Stalingrad - all without anyone ever getting hit. Now that's an accomplishment even after factoring in what must happen to the AC-556's accuracy after heating up the barrel in full auto :D

I wouldn't mind having a look at the latest generation Mini-14 and Mini-30 (if the two are comparable in accuracy the 7.62x39mm is also an idea though the poster did want to stick with .223). While nobody would ever give a stock Mini-14/30 a stellar accuracy rating they remain very popular. I don't have first-hand knowledge of this but have read the new (2005-present) generation Mini-X rifles are (allegedly) more accurate.

Are there others in your area who own both? While comparing specs is useful how the two fit you ergonomically is an important deciding factor. If it isn't fun for you to shoot it isn't money well spent, looks, accuracy, and reliability notwithstanding. If at all possible, try to find a shop, club, or individual(s) who can give you the opportunity to try or at least shoulder both before you buy.

Hope this helps,

- Pete

Go with the Ruger

Buy the Ruger, I wanted a 180B, but the problem is they are so hard to find and you will go crazy wishing it would just come.....I had a deposit on one but I couldnt take the stress of the indefinate waiting period. It sucks to have to wait so long trust me! If they were both available I would say the 180B for sure...in the end though the ruger will be in your hands, not some other guys, which makes it alot more accurate!!:ar15:

From what i read recently in a magazine, the mini 14 has been improved, and is suposed to give 2" accuracy at 100 yards. so i guess if your going to buy one make sure it's brand new this year. I personaly wont buy a ruger, because no honest person needs more than 10 shots in a magazine....Go f**k your self Ruger.

I didn't know that about Bill Ruger endorsing the mag cap bill. unreal! I will keep my 10/22s but will never use the stock mags again!

I put 20rds in my mini 14 then sold that junk.... hated the mini I could not get a good shot at 30 yds junk junk junk

Much more happy with my 180b plus it dont look hillbilly

Have a Mini -14. Love it and it does the job it was designed for. Hits a pie plate at 100 yards freehand open sights.

I have a persobnal ban on all Ruger products pre AWB when a trusted American gun manufacturer turned commie.

Apparently they've made some changes to this year's mini-14 model; supposed to be a lot more accurate...

I'd get a black special, though :D

You guys do realize that Bill Ruger is dead, correct? Even his son has stepped down from the leadership position. In addition Bill Ruger gave the NRA over $1 Million dollars.
Yeaa When I first heard about the mag bill incident I was really PO'd but then I started thinking about it and I think it was just a pollitical move in his part, it was during a very anti firearm time and he had to do something to lessen the flak he was taking. Trying to look like he was "making a difference". Anyway I'll always love my mini 14, shes not a tack driller but she does the job for what i want it for, looks f'n sweet and makes lots of noise :).

I agree here. I have a SS 197 series Ranch. It is about 4 years old now and it shoots as good as my AR-180. I have an older Mini-14 (184 series) that is not shot out and it is not nearly as accurate as the newer Mini or the 180. I have a freind that has a well used early '80s Mini and it needs some real help in the accuracy department.
