"sigh"

why can't we just leave production division alone? IT appears to be thriving in the states. More proposed trigger pull weights for DA and DA/SA.:puke:

For the record,..I think it is a terrible idea. Good news for striker fired guns (glcock) and bad news for DA/SA guns that have SA below 3lbs (CZ shadow)

It should bring some diversity which is lacking currently. In the US you see a bigger variety of Production guns being used throughout the class levels. Here the CZ (or Tangfoglio variant) are the only ones considered worthy since you can swap out the internals and get uber light pulls, this should level the playing field a bit.

What ideas? For those of us who can't read there?
Pat, as if field has anything to do with the gun...

Nope, never has, but we have always been fighting the image that IPSC has that you can't shoot the gun you have, you have to buy "X" brand or model which I think discourages a lot of shooters from coming out and trying out sport. They don't want to have to buy a new gun just to okay the game. Production was supposed to avoid this and just be for the gun you already have in the safe, but it hasn't. Ask yourself what, in every post we see here from a newbie asking what gun they should have to shoot IPSC, you ALWAYS tell them they have to have to be competitive?

they want to lower DA to 4lbs,..so those with glocks are in no danger of going below:rolleyes:

then they want to raise (in a lot of cases it would),...the SA trigger lb to 3lbs....MINIMUM!

so that means CZ shadow shooters trigger press weight in SA would need to go up....just to make it "fair"

to be honest,..why don't we all ditch our tanfoglio's, CZ shadows, Sig X-five, etc.etc...and all use Glocks, HK's,XD's, ...and while we are at it,..lets limit the cost of production guns...show up to the range with a receipt. They apparently think most people who have a trigger press under 3 lbs in SA are cheating. Apparently guns trigger systems don't get smoother from dryfire, minor detailing, or rounds downrange.:puke:

Budget and how much you can afford should have nothing to do with it. Are IPSC numbers dropping off in production? Nope...they are increasing.
the Extreme cost would be the stock 2 and Sphinx and Sig X-five....everything else is under $1100. I don't believe I have to have the most expensive gun to be competitive, but I choose to buy what I want....(this is still a democratic country, and capitalism is fine by me),..
A shadow is cheap enough,..and the last two production championships in Canada (actually, i think 4 or 5) were won with a shadow,....as were the last 2 world championships. Not only that, the CZ OEM parts are legal to use, and make the trigger really good, and also under 3lbs. It is middle of the pack for cost, but is superior in design (as is the tanfoglio-sphinx) as far as production guns go.

When you look at the US you see lots of CZ, Sig and Berettas in use, well maybe not as many Berettas, but Glock, S&W, and XD's too. Right now it's a DA/SA CZ world in Canada. The big difference is they have no Trigger pull rules, maybe this will balance that out.
I'm not sure I see the problem, if a CZ has to have a 3lb SA trigger and a Glock has to have a 4lb trigger, why does this go to the Glocks advantage?

they are lowering the trigger weight for a glock,..rising it for a CZ (or DA/SA that happens to have a good trigger)....ask around your area,..and see how many Shadows are under 3lbs.

Bad idea. A new shooter and especially one who want to go to IPSC simply have no idea what to look at when getting a new gun. There is a lot of things besides cool look and there is certain advantages in getting one of the guns popular at IPSC. Starting from how the gun fits your hand and ergonomics of the gun (reloading and changing magazines, clearing malfunctions and cleaning gun). Then the weight of the trigger or trigger pull, reliability (reputation and the factual reliability). Availability of the factory spare parts and accessories is especially important for production gun (springs, sights, grips, etc).

Take Beretta, the trigger pull is not as good comparing to CZ, so as the choice of the spare parts.

CZ is very popular in IPSC, easy availability of the factory parts. Tanfoglio makes a more expensive and somewhat "improved" CZ clone.

Glock and S&W M&P are popular in US, good availability of spare parts, but striker mechanism makes trigger pull heavier comparing to most DA/SA guns like Beretta or CZ. Also, polymer frame makes gun lighter, hence a bit snappier/jumpier on recoil.

One thing about Shadow is the number of different OFM parts available. You can do much more with the gun still staying in Production...

If you really feel exited about the sport, why wait a year before getting a competitive gun? My first IPSC gun was CZ Shadow and after a year I am not going to change my mind about it. Best gun for Production ever!

Sorry, what were you saying about it not being the gun? :D

Is that with the stock parts or the "stock" parts? :D

So, you don't see a problem with taking a factory gun and making trigger pull harder on it? Hmm...

Nope, if CZ can produce "factory" parts to make it lighter for IPSC competition they can make some heavier parts for IPSC competition
