argument between glocks or 1911 POLL

do you perfer GLOCK or 1911

1911- All steel / heavy / had a few missfeads / expensive
Glock- Plastic lower / lighter / no jams yet / less expensive

If I had to choose I would get a glock... But I perfer not to choose... Get both :mrgreen:

You need to learn how to think. The US army, like every army, like every police force, makes their procurement decisions based nearly purely on politics. Hence our army's continued use of... a single action auto, the Browning Hi-Power, carried cocked and locked.

FYI: The US picked the Berreta over the SIG because Beretta bid lower, not because the Beretta was the better gun, so you can stop telling yourself how uber you are becasue you've got the American service pistol.

I think you trying to prove that a 94 year old SA design is just as advanced as any modern DA design is absurd. So in almost 100 years there has been no improvement what so ever? Wow. I wonder what kind of fool invented a DA revolver. :roll:

Don't be an idiot. I never said the design was just as advanced*. I merely said it was every bit as capable of doing the same job. We're not talking about spaceships here, dude. Is a 100 year old design for a rowboat somehow less capable than a modern design of a rowboat?

*A point: The SVI Infinity, or STI Edge is at least as advanced as any gun in the world.
 
I only chose Glock for the purpose of how I feel after buying a new one.I feel both pistols are revolutionary in design.The 1911 has had almost 100 years in service with many Militaries and Police departments.The Glock has had people trying to make it fail since its debut in the mid 80's.I have read a guy in one of the mainline magazines who has put 180,000 rounds through his Gen1 Glock 17,and has yet to have it fail.Oh ya,Not to mention he froze it in a block of ice,left in the ocean for a week,didn't clean it for a year etc.Going back to the 1911 again.Many military Special Forces are now returning to the 1911's for there service pistol.I like both and would never really choose one for the other.Get both!! best of both worlds!!
 
Just a couple of thoughts. And these are not biased.

Large firearms procurements are almost always based on cost and politics.

Basing the superiority of a pistol on international ammo availability is incorrect.

Comparing stopping power of 2 different calibers based on magazine capacity is also not logical.

Condition 1 carry IS safe. What is not safe is the general lack of training that many 'professionals' receive... due to cost and politics.

One of the reasons that the MEU SOC (Marines) went back to the 1911 .45 acp is because it is a capable pistol in a calibre considered more effective for combat.

And No I won't debate the 9mm vs .45...

I don’t give a damn what US army uses, they can use wooden sticks dipped in dog crap for all I care. Yes Beretta offered a lower the overall price for their guns, BUT there is no or proof that Sig did any better in testing. So why would they pay more if they’re not gaining anything? I know all about the politics so don’t you teach me…

As for Canadian army still using High Power; since when does Canadian government cares about their Army? :roll: In fact all of their equipment is outdated…

Is a 100 year old design for a rowboat somehow less capable than a modern design of a rowboat?

There has been no advancement in a spoon design either, so what? Guns are different…. As for being capable of doing the same job, a revolver can do what 1911 can, so friggin’ what? That’s beside the point. DA guns offer a number of clear advantages over a SA designs, if you can’t see that I can’t help you.

Would you enlighten me? BTW I am not anti ANY handgun... I am however biased towards the 1911. That was the original point of this thread.

I am always willing to expand my firearms knowledge, so please tell me the clear advantages of the DA over SA.

Change "clear", highlighted above, to "arguable". I will point to the Springfield XD. You did know it's single action only, right?

If you don't feel safe using a Single Action pistol, please don't assume the rest of us are so inept.

Finally, guns are extremely far from "cutting edge". Your precious DA/SA designs are basically all 20+ years old. Think about how much telephones, TVs, or computers have changed in 20 years. My friend, Guns are LOW TECH. Like a rowboat, or a spoon.

I would rather carry a 1911 in condition 0 ( cocked and 1 in the pipe saftey off ) than a Glock cocked and loaded .1911's need 2 forces in differant directions to go off. Glocks only need one force on the trigger to go off . Dont tell me about that goofy thing on the trigger on glocks that is suppost to be kinda like a saftey . There are way more AD's with Glocks than 1911's
