ricka2, dude how can you carry a Glock 'coked and locked'? it doesn't even have a hammer

Bartledan, you're hilarious, have you tried stand up?

Somehow you forgot to answer the question about why LEO’s stay away from SA guns?

Also how is a STI or Infinity just as advanced as any other gun, yeah it looks modern, cost a fortune, so what? A most modern SA revolver is not any more advanced than one of the first S&W DA revolvers.

As I mentioned before I have both a 1911 Colt D/E and a G20 and used to have a G19 as well. From the stupid comments being made it's starting to make me wonder about the safety of all handguns including revolvers out there that only have a single direction of trigger pull as well.

There must of been a lot of problems over the last 100 + years with AD's in revolvers as well.

Some of you arm chair theoriest blow me away with your close minded ignorance and comments.............

This is why we keep our handguns in holsters that cover/protect the trigger, we control the gun once it's in our hands by using 2 hands and we keep our finger off of the trigger until we are ready to shoot.

All handgun styles are safe if the dimwit behind the trigger nows what he is doing. If you don't know what your doing you have no buisness touching a handgun anyway.

I guess I should make a serious post, as if anyone cares about my opinion anyway.

I have 2 1911s, an STI race gun which holds no bearing really on this poll, and a 'rinco fun/plinker. I have tried various Glocks, don't remember model #'s and I don't own any. The calibers were 9mm, 40 and 45. None of them felt right in my hand. The 45 in particular felt wierd to shoot. Like it was kinda "hopping" in your hand.

So I perfer 1911s. That doesn't make them better of worse. But it sure seems to make a fine excuse for an arguement!

No, there are never enough borderline morons in the audience for me to make fun of.

Somehow you forgot to answer the question about why LEO’s stay away from SA guns?

yeesh.

POLITICS!

You obviously know nothing about STI or SVI.

I still feel that both pistols are very excellent for use of duty,as well as target or IPSC.I think the best way to find out which is better for you is to go to your local range and ask to try one out.Lots of guys on the range would love the attention given to their toys. I would be willing to oet anyone try out my pistols to make their mind up.I think this is the only way to really know what you like.As far as the guys who think the Glock is so inferior. How come greater than 70% of Police forces in all of NorthAmerica use Glocks as their duty pistols.Who could they all be wrong? If they were unsafe, dont you think the Police Assosiations would get them taken out of the system and replaced with a better firearm that would be more safe? I think so!

It was suggested that budgets may have something to do with that. Back on some of those pages you skipped over.

My dad was one of the coppers in charge of finding the perfect pistol when London was looking to go to semi autos from revolvers.Price was all comparable. All the manufacturers were given specification(in the tender sent) for features and for price!!Each had design or unsafe carry flaws.Beretta was the first choice originally untill they realized how easy the slideand barrel came off the gun in a hand to hand confrontation. That would suck eh!!The Glock was put through tests with the others and won on everything but accuracy, it came second and the Sig came last ,Smith was 3rd.The Beretta was the most accurate but the heaviest for carry. The only thing I was disappointed in was the 1911 was not chosen for the running. It didnt even get to the starting gate!!!They figured a single action pistol was unsafe for carry due to the light trigger pull.I dont agree with this.I allways thought they should have put one in the running in .40 S&W.

DARKSTANG,

Wow  And these people actually had a say in pistol procurement for 'trained' professionals? I guess some of them missed the lesson on keeping your your finger off the trigger unless you INTEND to squeeze it..

No suggestion that Glocks are unsafe... just, that they are NOT more safe. And, from your last post, it would appear that the people making the decisions really don't know much about safety :|

No,I think they are aware of the idiot factor. When we get Glocks at Securicor(EVENTUALLY!!!)I have a fear of that same factor. The revolver is great for the guy who is careless and just does his 9-5 shift and goes home. There will be accidental discharges in our loading stations almost for sure.Put a 1911 in the hands of some of these guys and you are giving them something that takes a little care in using. The Glock is simple in design and has the same trigger pull as a revolver.1911 is good for us in the sport game(and for the Armed Forces or Tactical Police Officers) due to the fact that we are shooting with them all the time. Its what we enjoy and have taken to the limits of training to be better and better with them. The 9-5 Cop or Armoured car guard does requals once every 6 months.Tell me if that is good practice to give them a pistol that takes alot of skill to use or one that is a point and shoot. You give the simple employees too much credit.I think sometimes people think that cops or any kind of Armed proffessional has alot of training.I think they should have requals every 2 months and make it more practical training and less classroom. This is why I like to get out to the range as much as possible. On a limited budget of course!I doubt very much I will ever need to pull it from the holster, but if I ever have to I practice when I can.Oh Ya,and its fun too!!!Most guys have the opinion,Police or otherwise, that once they are done there shift they dont need to care about it anymore!!Bad idea giving those guys the 1911.With that I see why the 1911 was not a consideration. But as a pistol it is outstanding.I guess I should restate that it should have been in the running as long as the proper training was given. That would be your cost factor right there alone!!

No such animal. There is no firearm that is GREAT for the careless....

Please don't tell me untrained simpletons are the reason for getting Glocks.

Dude, I am not picking on you, but think about what you are saying. Two external safeties and some training can't possibly that difficult  If the department chooses a firearm for any reason (politics, cost) that is one issue. But to state that it takes too much skill to opperate a 1911 leaves me wondering about the people that are being hired

This is my point!!! To me or you this works well.I agree, that we should hire better people. If you ask alot of the people at my work who shoot for sport they will tell you the same.As far as picking on me, you wouldnt be the first or the last!!LOL!!!
If I didnt like the debate I wouldnt take part. Without a couple bashings here and there,it would be no fun right?
