Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

Anyone know what kind of buffer tube a 180B-2 would have to use if I wanted to run a Magpul CTR stock?

I suppose I would have to run something like a StormWerkz Ar-180B Carbine Stock Adapter. Does anyone know if those are Mil-spec or Commercial size?

Cheers

P.S. Thanks for the lube reply
The thread size on the milspec and commercial are the same, just a difference in the main tube diameter.
So the Carbine Stock Adapter will take either.

Has anyone attempted to fabricate a type 89 modification to their ar18, apparently they are very similar other than some cosmetic/full auto differences.

I don't understand what you are asking. What is a Type 89 modification?

The AR18 is similar to a lot of rifles. The Barretta AR70, The Type 89, and the Singapore SR88 (probably the most similiar), just to name a few.

Armed, was it here or ARF.com that a guy hack sawed his rear sight off. Also wondering if your new lower will incorporate a pic type 2 slot rail at the ass end for removeable rear sights.

I really doubt the lower will incorporate a pic rail, would set the sight back too far. Honestly, I think they are just going to go ahead and build a complete rifle. Maybe only a limited run of the billet 180B lowers for the few guys that want one, maybe on a per order basis.

Who knows, I'll have a better answer in the next month or so.

Dammit why did I have to look at this thread? Now I want a 180b again....

I'll wait till Armedsask comes out wiht that billet lower.... any projected release dates? A year? Two years? Tomorrow?

Two issues:

1. Looks like the spring pushing the bolt carrier just does not have enough power and the carrier does not go all the way forward from time to time while cycling. When I push the handle by hand, then it works. But sometimes it cycles just fine. So I am puzzled.

2. I have the feeding ramp as on the photo in the FAQ - it came this way from Wolverine, but still have feeding problems. Magazine which came with the rifle and purchased 10-round mags - all have the same problem - From time to time I have to pull the bolt carrier all the way back and "slam" it by hand to get the round into the chamber. Even for the very first round in the mag. When I look into the chamber I can see the little scrapes of copper coming from a bullet, and if I just cycle by hand without shooting, then I can see how bullets are scratched.

Are those problems related? What do I do?

Hey Guys,

I have a question. I am installing a Midwest Industries Tactical Forearm onto my Bravo and am curious if you have to install the Front Sight Base along with the M16A1 Front Sight? I am assuming that I dont considering that parts job seems to only be to hold the original forearm in place.

Also I have noticed then when I install the front ring (MI forearm ring) the screws line up fine but then the upper portion touches the operating rod link. When I adjust it so that there is no touching the screws wont line up. Should I file down the one side of the opening on the front ring or is there an easier way to fix this problem.

Lastly, when cutting off the 5/16th's from the Operating rod assembly should you cut it off flat or tapered as originally provided?

Cheers

I'll post pic's when I take some.

You'll have to install the front sight assembly, that is what your gas piston connects to.

Just cut the rods off, they are only chamfered to make it easier to put them in the holes.

I noticed that right after I posted this question haha. I originally installed the front ring in backwards and only after did I realize that the one part is actually cut to fit the front sight.

That does make sence now that you mention it.

Thanks for the reply

Cheers

With all the talk of ammo shortages...
Does anyone know2 if there will be a.22Lr (or other) caliber conversions available? Someone had mentioned a .22WMR lower a page or two back.

If you did want to convert it to .22lr would an Ar 15 chamber insert type kit work?
