ASC LAR 10/30 round pistol mags

ASC made the original pistol mags that questar brought in. These 10/30 mags are made by ASC. If ASC makes pistol mags, why can't they make bigger pistol mags? Same manufacture, same intent, same markings.

It is the intent behind the manufacturing of the mag, not it's looks, that determines what they are to be used for.

Your forgetting that the RCMP lab has the power to arbitrarily rule them prohibited with no basis in law. Apparently they have already done that numerous times with 10/30 mags. I believe enefgee is right and that the paperwork looked like the regular LAR mags and slipped through.

Well fortunately the variant rule doesn't apply to mags, and the Beowulf mag, being a rifle mag designed to fit an AR mag well isn't considered a 223 mag, because the mag well was originally designed only to take a 223 mag which the Beowulf mags were based off of.

By your logic, the law would never permit an AR15 receiver to be used to make a pistol. It was always a rifle design, so it couldn't possibly be anything else.

While things may be similar, or near identical, that doesn't make them stagnant or fixed.

10 round AR pistol mags were developed after 10 round rifle mags. By your theory, that would make the LAR design originally a rifle mag body, which it isn't as we all know.

Lots of things like drugs and prohibited knives and brass knuckles slip through CBSA everyday, that doesn't make them legal just because they are for sale. If ASC has been selling mags to companies like Questar, CanAm, wolverine and such for years, how did this unknown company started in 2012 (according to the domain registration) secure the distributor ship for ASC? Questar had the RCMP lab draft a bulletin to prove their mag, there should be one available for these.

Like it or lump it, the RCMP lab has the say at their discretion. Logic has no part of the rulings.
 
Guys, I've been doing this for nearly 40 years, with stupid laws and rules both as a civilian shooter and in my profession (Insurance - the birth place of confusing rules) I wish it wasn't so, but there's no way in hell these will pass the smell test.

I don't always like or agree with your posts, but this is bang on. It would be a minor miracle for these to get official approval at this stage of the game.

Well you've been at this longer than I. Good debate none the less. Hopefully a call to the CFO will verify.
 
Here's the key point from a regulatory standpoint, quoted from Questar's letter of approval from the RCMP

b) The cartridge magazine for this handgun as manufactured by C Products LLC is not an adaption (sic) of a magazine designed and manufactured for use in a semi-automatic rifle.

Then that explains why the ATRS mags are a go then with their 10/25 shape, rather having gone with a 10/20 or 10/30 design.

If this is the reasoning, for argument sake, why not make a metal mag with a 10/25 shape in the same context? That could work possibly.

Got an email from John this afternoon saying my mag would be mailed out tomorrow morning, fast service so far and responding to emails/questions on a Sunday.
 
So where is this RCMP Lab located? I think it's in our best interest to make sure cake is available at the time of the testing of this mag.

So, you can only use an AR 15 at a shooting range… And these are 10 round magazines just like the LAR 10 round magazines… So everybody is hot and horny about a 10 round magazine that 'looks like' a 30 round magazine to walk around at their gun club? Plus it does not look at all legal…
Am I missing something here?
What's the big draw for these?
