ATRS Modern hunter specs, pics and range reports

Very nice! I love the 6.5... if atrs made a long action in 6.5x55 that would be the one I would have bought!!
I have a love after with 6.5 as well
I called ATRS to inquire about putting on a carbon fibre barrel which thay are willing to do for me
We spoke about uppers and thay are willing to make me complete uppers so the 338 fed and 308 are a go for me

Ok, I finally broke 200 rounds with my M.H.. I thought I would give my impressions so far. As some of you may have seen a few weeks back, I posted some target pics of my initial results. Those have since been removed. There is so much back & forth going on (and down right arguing), that I took it upon myself to remove my target pictures. I won't be posting any here or in the future. This is my impressions of the rifle after a few weeks and 225 rounds fired.

I have used factory match grade ammo up until today. I was having so much fun (and success), that I chose to also give the Hirtenberger surplus a try. I'll tell you the results later on.

Today, I was at CHAS's new long range and stretched the rifle out to 800 metres. There was no wind this morning and the temperature was +8c. I have shot out to 300 yards and those results were very encouraging. So my focus today was further out. And data entry for 5 different loads.

This rifle, mine at least, is a heavy example. I have the 22" stainless heavy contour (Bob Jury) barrel with an ATRS brake. I added an SHV scope and an LRA light tactical bipod. So this rifle is easy on the shoulder to shoot with recoil being very tame for the .308 round. (I was bench shooting since I am recovering from knee surgery and getting into the prone position is not possible right now.)

So, I started with 168gr and checked my zero at 200 and 300m. Great so far...dead bulls-eye with one round each on the six inch gong. Then to 500m. One miss, then bulls-eye on a 6" gong. Next six rounds were also moa on that small gong. So, off I went to 800m. I did not have success with my first 10 rounds with the 168gr pills. So I decided to try out some 178gr A-Max Hornady. It took three rounds and I was on steel at 800m. Some adjusting followed and then I moved sequentially with the next 40 rounds from the man-silhouette down to the six inch gong. I also tried 2 more brands of match ammo (175 & 178gr). After I entered all the data in my log, I decided to try some surplus ammo. What the heck! I brought some 147gr Hirtinberger and I tried it out. For the first ten rounds, I was only loading 1 round in the magazine. This stuff is supposed to be pretty hot, so I didn't want any issues. And if there were, at least the bolt would hold back because of only loading the single round. (I did have issues with Nosler match ammo blowing off primer caps and sometimes jamming the next round so I don't recommend that ammo.) It took 10 rounds to figure out the dope to get on steel. But I finally got it on! The last ten rounds was plinking away with the surplus stuff with 7 out of 10 hits. Fun times!!

So my experience out to 800m was pretty good. In all, when I zeroed, I was on target approximately 80 to 85 percent of the time. Not as good as my Coyote, but pretty damn good, IMHO. The action is pretty violent compared to my bolt guns. This is something that I am getting used to. I can tell when I'm making mistakes and because this is a semi, it's not very forgiving the further out you go.

The fit & finish is impeccable. Cleaning is very easy with the one pin take down. I have not cleaned the barrel yet, but have religiously cleaned the action and bolt and carrier with every use. Also, very judicious lubing is necessary on the carrier. And G96 is my choice here.

I hope this helps some of you still on the fence. If you don't have one, I can arrange for you to shoot mine to try it out. If you do have one, I hope you're having as much fun as I am!

Thanks Rick!

Nice report, thanks...

Wonder what is the issue with 168 grains ammo @ 800 m. Sounded like they shot well @ 200 and 300 meters?

Anyone ever tried to shoot a MH with a PRS off hand? I'm asking because i kind of want to use my MH for deer hunt next season and i'm wordering if it will be too heavy or awkward in my tree stand, right now i have ordered it with A2 furniture but i'm thinking about switching to PRS and ERGO. I already have ordered it with the lighter CF barrel and Fortis rail so i don't think i'm looking at a 10lbs gun.

Thanks for any input guys.

My MH weights 9.2lbs with no optic or magazine. It has the 18.6 Proof barrel, ATRS muzzle brake, Fortis 15" rail, ergo grip & PRS stock. I've shot it off hand at the indoor range a few times, it points and feels great in my opionion. The change over from the A2 to PRS stock is easy since they use the same longer buffer tube.

What optic are you using? Im hesitating between my march 3x24x42 or buying an Elcan 1.5x6

Long story. Currently I have a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP EBR-2C reticle on my MH. The Vortex usually sits on my 18" AR. I originally has going to have a S&B PM II 3-20x50 FFP H59. I special ordered it to come with CCW turrets (and not the MTC turrets). It showed up with the illumination not working, so it went back to Germany for 4 months and then came back. They said they fixed it, but the illumination is sooooooooo dim as to be practically unusable. I thought it would be like the illumination on my friends S&B 5-25x56 with the P4Fein reticle, but apparently not. I guess all the super fine reticles (H58, H59, Tremor 2, etc) the illumination is very dim according to the dealer. The dealer was VERY good about it, they are taking it in return. After doing even more research and going around to just about every retail store in Calgary, Edmonton & Red Deer that stocks higher end optics, I have decided to go with the Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44 FFP Tremor 2 (non-illuminated). I would very much like illumination, but the retail with current exchange rate on the same scope is close to $6000.00!!!! Without illumination the Leupold is $3600. I think this will be the best scope to fit my needs.

If I wasn't concerned about weight, I'd go with the Vortex Razor HD Gen II, I think they are excellent value for money, but are heavy as F***. Other's I seriously considered to replace the S&B were the Bushnell Elite Tactical HDRM 3.5x21x50mm FFP with Tremor 2 reticle and the Kahles k624i. But both the Bushnell & Kahles are in the 32.5 to 33.5 Oz weight range. The Leupold is 23.6oz and is the shortest by over an 1".

I went with the 3-24X42 March fx (MIL/MIL and FFP) for mine. low profile and light weight (I think its 24oz but don't quote me) when you consider the features it has. it looks great on the MH too!
