Atten Alberta Hunters

Alright, I'm opening this up again due to a couple members that have p.m.'d me stating that this thread has vital information in it for Alberta hunters.

Get this straight:

THERE WILL BE NO MORE ALBERTA/ONTARIO BASHING OR INFRACTIONS WILL BE HANDED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently not so... a select few westerners seem to have a problem with us and our province, Maddog. :(

That said, I get along with everyone on here. Just hate it when people bash my province and them thinking they live in heaven.

What didn't you understand about this post?

The way I'm looking at it is that if you wouldn't have made the orange vest crack on the first page there wouldn't have been a problem with this thread. Grow a thicker skin.

If you've got anything else to say about this you can p.m. me, or not but let this thread continue for the Alberta guys that this affects, I'd expect the same of them if this were an Ontario hunting issue.

Okay. Now that Morton is back in, it is obvious that Stelmach has faith in him and isn't too worried about the "hunter" vote. Now what?

I wasn't at all surprised that Morton got back in as Minister. He has a lot of "unpopular" business to attend to... not only Open Spaces but especially the Land Use Framework which is certain to get the attention of many Albertans. I think it would have been very unfair if not entirely impossible for any other selection to this portfolio.

Dependant upon the feedback and Morton's ability to stick handle around Open Spaces and the LUF, I am not convinced that he will remain as SRD Minister for more than 12 months. I understand there is a lot of unrest in the party. I guess time will tell.

I do not view the reappointment of Ted to the SRD portfolio as a slight against hunters in the least. Of course, I recognize that this is my own opinion.

I suspect the majority of PC MLA's know nothing about hunting or hunters so as far as they are concerned Ted has credibility.
 
I think that we (all hunters and fishermen in AB) need to start putting pressure on all levels of the SRD, from front line staff like F&W officers, and especially regional wildlife biologists, to Morton and Stelmach and every other MLA. I will be talking with the regional wildlife bio in my area about OS as well as this CWD fiasco. Has anyone posted or linked the photos from Provost? The SRD seems to be losing touch with the hunting community over these issues. They are beginning to lose my respect, that is for sure.

If you are wondering why I am suggesting voicing opinions to field / office staff of SRD is that much like us hassling our MLA's often results in the MLA hassling Regional managers who then hassle field staff, it can sometimes work the other way. It is becoming obvious that there is an agenda at work with Morton, and the PC's may not be listening to the public, well, maybe they will listen to their staff when they say there is a major problem developing at the grass roots level.

Just a thought.

What the hell? I just contacted many of the members of the Open Spaces Working Group, the AFGA Zone 1 Rep, the President of the LFGA and have just received confirmation that Kelly Semple from HFT know NOTHING about these supposed “drastic changes”.

I am pissed off!!!! This should have nothing to do with “connections”. I fear that this type of patronage is exactly why we got this Open Spaces fiasco in the first place. This whole thing stinks and better be examined very carefully, regardless of the outcome. If this information is true, how can the Working Group and elected representatives be kept in the dark? If changes have been made and have been shared with individuals outside of the Working Group, and especially without any consultation or communication with the same, I will be filing a complaint with the Province. This whole thing keeps playing out like amateur hour!!!
 
I just received an e-mail from the AFGA Zone 1 Representative who spoke to Jim Allen in regard to "changes", drastic or otherwise, to the Open Spaces Proposal. Jim Allen confirms that they are rumors (everything from the whole program being scrapped to proceeding with RAMP only) and that due to the recent election it will take some time before the group can once again sit down and deal with the issue and complexities of OS.

If there is information that suggests otherwise, I would love to hear about it.

Unfortunately it's the proffesionals who are insisting on behaving like amateurs.

As you should be. I am as well. Even worse is the fact that these people seem to revel in it.

There's only two possible scenarios at play here, and both involve very unprofessional conduct on the part of those involved. That should have consequences.

My hope is that the house gets cleaned - completely.

I think there should be some accountability in all of the groups and individuals who claim to represent us.
The accountability in my mind begins with the Government, and rattle down through various levels until you reach the working groups in this case. Delegated Authorities (i.e. AHEIA, Hunting For Tomorrow) receive large lots of funding and are reluctant to speak against government policy. I think it is unfair to expect or allow them to make decisions on behalf of the hunting community. It would appear the government was purchasing "buy in"from the hunting community.

Anybody with multiple hats or interests are likely not driving the desires of the average Albertan hunter.
