Something quite unbelievable happened to me at range 7 yesterday. I was there about 3:30 PM to try out my new pistol. I took along my AR as I hadn't properly sighted it in since installing a new Trijicon Acog, so this was a good opportunity for me to do so.

I had been there about 10 minutes and was sighting in my AR. One of the range wardens reached me and told me stop firing because I was shooting my AR with LAR-15 .223/5.56 10 Round Pistol Magazines which he considers as a “Prohibited Devices” in Canada. So, I explained to him why it can legally hold more than five rounds and I even provided him with a legal document about the legality of magazine I was using. But he still didn’t believe me and asked me to leave the range if I continue shooting with this type of magazine. If I refuse to do so, he will call RCMP to remove me from the range. The worst thing is that another range officer took the magazine without my permit and removed the extra five bullets that were inside the magazine and threw them on the green bench. I was a little upset at that time .But I can understand why he treated me that way. Because there are many people who mistakenly believe rifles are limited to 5 rounds and handguns are limited to 10 rounds.

I have already sent an email to the Executive Committee of Poco gun club to express my concerns about this incident. I hope other poco gun club members and black rifle lovers can also send them an email to let them know Lar-15 pistol magazine can be legally used in AR rifle and has legal capacity of more than five rounds.

you should have told them wait I'LL Call the rcmp

then see what they did

we need all members to write and push that these 2 asswipes bee removed and BANNED from that range

Im in Ont so im not a member

Unless there is a written rule about 5 round limits in the Poco Reg's, (some clubs have this rule in effect, except in competition events) make sure you send them all the info (Questar links, etc etc...). Demand an apology with the Pres and executives present. Don't enforce "Presumed" rules if you are not sure.

First off...the RW who removed 5 rounds from your 10rnd LAR-15 mag didn't change anything with your "prohibited-only-at-PoCo" magazine...it was still capable of holding 10 rounds, so what was his (stupid) point? He shouldn't have touched any of your firearms or equipment without asking for your permission to do so first.
PoCo is NOT an AR-friendly environment, regardless of what anyone says or thinks.
You'll be invisible if you show up waving a 30 year old Remrugchester thuddy-awt-six bolt gun around, wearing baggy assed jeans, plaid shirt and a John Deere hat. ;)

What you need to do if you are not already a member, is get a membership, take the friggen RUC and shoot the private ranges....

Unless LEO/Corrections etc are using them, no body bothers you...course with John gone, the new generation of RW might patrol that area?!?

PS if a Range official was positive that a prohibited device was being used on his range he is obligated to notify LE and have it dealt with. The fact that he didn't in my eyes proves he wasn't sure about it or he would have dealt with it via the local johnny law.

The RCMP cop who shows up likely wouldn't have known the rules either. ;) Most range rules allow RO's in disputes the power to "remove"(ie. call the cops if the member won't leave) anyone at anytime for any reason; the member can redress it to the executive board later if they don't like the reason. This is your course of action. Take every poco-CGN'er and pro-AR poco member with you when you do and get the rules and the enforcers of the rules fixed right. ;) :)

Don't let this one go. Get in touch with whoever's in charge and get an apollogy.

We're our own worst enemy it seems.

Why didn't you wait for the RCMP to show up when the range warden called his bluff?

You have the document and the mag is legal for pistol and AR.

It would have been worth it to see the deflated and shattered Ego of the range warden!

Actually, I think that we as Ar owners should all do our part and as soon as able order some of these mags and when common sense comes back to Ottowa then we can also de-pin alot of our exsisting mags....And maybe(dare to dream) a de-restricted Ar, kinda takes me back to my youth.

unfortunately poco does have a rule stating that long guns may have a max of 5 rounds and handguns a max of 10.

you can see it on page 12 of their policy manual that is available off their website.....

but i still think we need to write letters to let them know these mags are legal. and that they should amend their rules. I just joined the club so this is something that will concern me in the future once I pick up my first ar.

Wow. After the episode Six Star had last year with his 'full-auto' AR this confirms my decision not to renew my membership at Poco. I took the 'friggen RUC' and half the time I went, the RO wouldn't open 3, 4 ,5 or 6 so I ended up shooting on range 7 anyway. Oh, and judging by my experience, I wouldn't expect much support from Murray on this issue.
