I believe Dlask Arms made Clobbersauras shorty so if he can't get you the measurement from him I would contact them. Also try to get 1 of these, as like the AR15 they are made for helping shorties cycle properly ;)

I'm trying to avoid that since it's 3.25" long and I cut 4" off the bbl to start with.

Besides, I've got a custom J-Tac I made that goes on the rifle now and I'm VERY happy with the way it reduces recoil....double/triple taps are very controllable with it installed and I'd rather not give it up....especially after I spent 3 hours welding, drilling and then tapping 14x1LH J-TAC to make it RH thread. :)

Sean if you can, post a pic so we can see what she looks like!

Well, this isn't a very good pic.....I have the J-Tac on it now and I'm in the process of modding the factory folder.

Here's the SBR:

Here's the stock I modded for my Century....

I am inclined to believe the bbl port is no longer the problem, but that instead the problem may lie in the gas block itself. I noticed the two "gas bleed off" ports on the bottom side of the gas block on the VZ are fairly large.....about 4mm or .157 inches. I am thinking that the gas may be bleeding off too quickly and that the solution may be to weld up the ports and redrill them to keep the system pressurized longer.

my 11" FSN has a barrel port of 9/64" or 3.6mm and the double "gas bleed off" holes are also 9/64" each.

if you have a 4mm barrel port then i dont think thats the problem .

what kind of ammo are you using ?

I have the same rifle as curtton so I don't think you need me to measure. Too bad you can't speak czech. Since there are a lot more of these short barreled vz's over there you might find someone that had a similar issue on one of their forums. Nonetheless, I am sure you will find the problem in due time.

When you say clip the coils on the spring for the rod....do you mean the spring that goes around the base of the piston or the recoil spring located on the receiver cover? I'm assuming you mean the one on the piston.....not the recoil spring....but maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Thanks,
Sean

Yes the spring that goes around the base off the piston under the rear sight assembly. That needs to be chopped off a bit.

I just tested mine, the 1/8' bit fit, the 9/64' didn't. I have a 12 inch barrel.

Interesting....talked to Dan at Checkpoint yesterday via the CZforumsite and he said he'd talked with CSA (Czech Small Arms) and that the bbl port and gas port should match in the 'carbines'....meaning I'm going to open mine up to 4mm to match the bbl port.

Thanks for checking.....

Hmmm....my bleed offs were .157"....just under 4mm and the gas block port was .125" or 1/8".

I'm going to open up the gas block port to 4mm and go from there.

I'm using Brown Bear 123 gr. HP....it runs flawlessly in my Century VZ and ran 100% in the DTechnik before I had it cut down.

Dan Brown at Czechpoint-USA recommended I try Wolf instead and mentioned Golden Tiger wouldn't run in his SBR'd VZ without short stroking.

Great news....that's what I thought you meant...but wanted to be sure before I clipped anything.

Any idea how much you clipped off or how long the spring is now?

Thanks,
Sean

Can I have a closeup picture of that modded stock, Sean K?

I don't have any currently....that's the only one I've got. I'm basically computer illiterate and my wife has to upload the pics for me. :p

I'll see about getting a closer one for you....anything in particular you want to see close up?

I cut it out with my plasma cutter after first drilling the radiuses for the corners of the holes on my drill press, used a die grinder to get the bigger stuff and then hand filed and sanded it to get everything straight, welded it onto the factory folder with my MIG and sanded the weld down to make it look like one piece with an air sander and 2" 100 grit discs....would've been a lot easier to send it off to a water jet cutter....but that was about $75 and I'm cheap/poor/unemployed at the moment. Time....I've got. Money? Not so much. :)

Sean

***EDIT*** Oh, and I also added a bit of weld material on the end of the stock near the hinge to take away the small amount of play these stocks seem to get as they wear. Now it locks up pretty tight....I need to do this to my D-Technik....but I'm still contemplating paying the $75 to have it water jet cut as it took a full day to hand file and shape the last one.

Clobb, Currton, and Ridgearms.....
I'm assuming all of your guns run fine.

Any particular ammo you stay away from or you particularly like?

What do you shoot most in your VZ SBRs?

What's the ejection like? I used to be getting cases flung about 20-30 feet up and forward (when the bbl was still factory length 15.6" IIRC), now....at most, I'm getting 4-5 feet up....with most 1-2 feet.

Thanks once again for taking the time to measure the ports for me. I really, really appreciate the help as it gives me a starting point.

Thanks guys.

Sean

almost everyone shoots military surplus through them. Up here it is around $200 for a crate of 1200 rounds. The coil was manufactured from the factory in Czech.

Compared to my 18.5" barrel- the spring is aprox 1-2 coils shorter, but my 16" barreled rifle is shorter then both of them, hhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm?????

If you do cut the spring take a bit off at a time and fire rounds through it until you reach peak performance.

you may wanna double check with someone else to see if this may be the problem, but again parts are easy for you guys to come across(czechpiont-usa), tobad they don't ship to canada.

Bfiles said it with the coil chop a little and keep going to see if you improve your situation. Also, he is right about the ammo. I shoot czech surplus. Never really had a hiccup except a fte the first day I took it out. Might of been a lack of lube as pointed out by another member. In terms of ejection I can't say exactly as the casings hit the roof or pillars where I shoot. They go at least 5-7 ft up before hitting the roof.

Cutting the coil would be where I start as well, its is relatively inexpensive and easy to replace if things go wrong.

I wonder how the ak muzzle brake would look on my rifle????

on another note, I am thinking about selling the ace skeleton ak47 stock, I paid over $200 for it. What do you guys feel would be a reasonable price for it????
It has only ever been mounted then taken off to put the original folder back on.

Sorry to hijack Sean K.

Ya, I was just looking for a starting point.

I guess it'll be just like tuning the recoil spring on my Spike's Tactical 22LR upper.

As I said, I'll try increasing the gas block port size first, then go from there with the spring.

As for ammo....we don't get a lot of import ammo and most of it is corrosive. I've stayed away from it for that reason since I'd rather not get into the cleaning regimen of hot, soapy water. I normally just run Brown Bear for around $225/1K....though I have seen some Yugo corrosive for $190/K that's been tempting. If it's hotter and will run in this SBR, perhaps I should pick some up. Kinda sucks though as I've been stockpiling BB and some Golden Tiger and would hate to have the SBR be ammo specific.

No problem....nice looking rifle. Love the wood on it. No idea on the AK muzzle brake....which one were you thinking of? The slant? They're only like $7 from CNCWarrior if you wanted to try one out in the 14x1RH pattern.

Not sure on the stock....but since it's essentially new, I'd knock a little off (maybe the shipping cost) and see if someone would buy it. It's nice looking too.
