Attn: VZ-58/CZ-858 SBR Owners. Need Your Help.

It is unlikely anyone can comment on ammunition in a way that is useful to you. You need to understand that Czech military surplus (corrosive) is essentially the only ball game in town up here. There is no Wolf, Tula, Brown Bear, Silver Bear, etc. except for small quantities that are smuggled in by snow birds returning from Florida vacation. There are a couple of brands of new manufactured non-corrosive ammo, but they are 2-4 times the cost of Czech surplus, so everybody shoots Czech surplus, manufactured between 1959-1993.

Ah....gotcha. I didn't realize that....just figured you used surplus b/c it was good ammo at a good price.

Thanks for the info.

It is good ammo, quite accurate but a pain in the arse to have to clean every time you let off a few.
I wish we could get the 225$/1000 hollowpoint non-corrosive russian stuff you guys get. I have some of the silver bear that I got from my friend who is conveniently ignorant of US state department restrictions (despite my illuminations) and it's really good. God knows I'm not going to pay 15$ a box for it up here though (wholesale sports).

I put over 300 rounds through my rifle yesterday. Ejection is forward right (about 2 O'clock) about three or four feet. I shot it along side a good friends 858 and his ejection was much more vigorous, but that is to be expected.

Is this what everyone else is experiencing with their SBR length VZ's....3-4 foot ejection?

I'm curious as when the bbls were the 16" length, they were easily throwing brass 15-20 feet.

I'm pretty sure 12" bbl'd Draco's throw spent cases 20 ft or so (from the SBRs/pistols I've seen at the range).

With 3-4 foot ejection, is anyone concerned about overall reliability of the shorter VZs?

Thanks,
Sean

A recent torture test done by one of the members here seemed to not indicate any reliability issues. I can't find the link to the CSA 11" torture test, but if someone could like to it I would be greatfull!

Me too. I'd be very interested to see it. The purported weak ejection has me concerned as when my XCRs were experiencing weak ejection it was indicative of reliability problems. Now that I've fixed the SBRs.....they seem to be very reliable.

Yep. Don't know if it's a factor but I haven't shot it at temps over -20C yet. I'll find out in the spring if it runs harder when it's warmer.

It's probably best for me not to draw any conclusions from a small sample like this, let alone at -20ºC.....as long as it's running 100%, it shouldn't matter how far the cases are being thrown by my estimation.

NP. I'll post up as soon as I get a response. :)

Got the response....here it is:

Yes, we can ship firearms parts to Canada. You can call the order in to get actual shipping costs. (online it charges $20 for default international, then we contact you if that doesn't quite cover it).
