ATT's what you need to know

Previous to this I had the same requirements and better benefits, it was all on a single ATT and it didn't list the registration numbers...all I needed was to be in possession of the registration when I had what ever pistols with me....meaning I could bring somebody else pistol as long as I have the registration with me. I can still transport for others but now I require to tell MB CFO and get another set of ATT's just a lot of paperwork all the time....oh well at least I can still transport them. :)

Hey, if it stops just one criminal with his unregistered gun it's all worth it! It's a small price to pay to have safe streets!

:onCrack:

Write a letter or two to your MP and tell them how great the system is working to stop criminals!

I understand your frustration. Use the search function and you'll see this has been discussed several times. This is unlikely to change until we get a CPC majority, so I hope you're doing all you can to make that happen. Also, joining gun orgs like CSSA and NFA is a good idea too. Click the links in my sig line for more information.

Oh yeah- welcome aboard!

Long term ATT's are issued for a period of up to 5 years, or however long your PAL is valid for. Club membership is not required.

When filling out the form include; name, address, PAL #, phone #, name of range that you will primarily be shooting at, sign and date it and leave the rest ofthe form blank. Your ATT will come back being valid for all ranges in western Canada, all gunsmiths and all border crossings providing that you have the appropriate U.S. documentation.

hey! they forced me to go join a club! wtf

Where in the law does it say you need to be a club member to shoot or possess? As such isn't that requirement before you buy incorrect? Letting arbitrary rulings and personal whims of staff slide is a slippery slope. But hey, I could be totally off here...

Agreed, Kinda,

It is unlikely to change unless people do more than just "join an organization" I would say...

Kinda some people might say you have to do more than make a donation to "live aid" to stop the starving and violence in Sudan. But some people think bumper stickers are enough.

Join those organizations, and be actively involved, educate and invite your friends and neighbors, and get together and challenge the politicians, arbitrary laws, and bureaucrats who are branding you a criminal for owning a gun.

You own a video camera, it doesn't mean you make child ####. You own a farm, it doesn't mean you grow weed. Own a car, doesn't mean you are driving unsafely... So owning a gun doesn't mean I am a killer...

But I wonder if someone in the room with a CCW and some reputable training and practice training could have stopped the Virginia Tech, Dawson College, Columbine, or Polytechnique murderers and saved some lives...

And though I don't know the whole story, and am not an expert on the subject, a guy like Bruce Montague had to get himself arrested to bring some of these issues to the Supreme Court.

That is much more than a bumper sticker and a donation and laminated card.

What has changed in BC for ATT's?

Im going to be applying for one pretty quick. Same sort of deal on the application (name, address, PAL#, phone #, and club i belong too....leave rest blank)?

One thing I am a bit confused about.

I am in Ontario, and say I am a member of club, and a friend is a member of a different club. My club requires me to go through THEIR handgun safety course in order to get an ATT. Can my friend who has an ATT from his club (which in Ontario allows you to take your restricted to any CFO approved range in the province) bring his restricted to my club as a guest since he hasn't taken my clubs specific safety course? Is that something i would have to ask my club?

New Brunswick

Not sure if this has been posted yet or not as I don't have time to read through all the posts.

In New Brunswick, for your first LTATT, you need to fill out the application, and send it, along with photocopies of your RPAL and gun club membership card.

After that, to add ranges or firearms to the LTATT, simply send a photocopy of the new gun club membership card or call them up to add a new firearm. They are quite nice and as long as they aren't too busy, can usually get the LTATT faxed to you the same day.

No courses or anything silly like that to take or have to worry about. ;)

I have a quick question.

Let’s say, hypothetically, one was to purchase a handgun from an online retailer, shortly thereafter receive a notification that a package was waiting for them at the post office, but haven’t received any registration certs or indication that an ATT was authorized for you to take the package home.

Is the package only considered a peice of mail until you open it?
Or is it a handgun at this point and you need all necessary paperwork to legally take it home?

This is in Ontario, but I’m sure this situation would apply in any province.
Thanks

Pose the same question to your CFO.

Any answer you'd get here would be pure speculation.

Great thread, however Quebec situation still has not been explained completely, I have simple question to Quebec residents about LTATT:

Assume you are Quebec resident and have valid RPAL. Am I correct in my steps:

1. Join gun club and get membership there (pass the test, get a membership card)
2. Buy a restricted gun (let's say from the store in your city or some where else in Canada)
3. Apply for ATT (temporary one) Should seller do it for you based on the information your provide him with (Name of the club where you are memeber at, RPAL number, address, e.t.c) ????
4. Get Temporary ATT and get gun home.
5. Ask your club to get you LTATT ? (Should I ask club about that or just call to CFO and do it my self) ??? Also while filling out the form for LTATT you already have your gun serial number, but what about (the club name and adress) if you want to shoot in 5 different clubs but have a membership only with one ?
6. You got your LTATT in mail. Happy. But will you be able to go only to your club where you have membership or will you be able to go to any CFO aprooved range in Quebec ??? Otherwords what is stated in LTATT for Quebec - Good for any CFO aprooved range in Quebec or only strictly for the transportation from home to the club where you have your membership ?

Once again, this is the Question for Quebec residents who passed thru all this process recently.

Thank you :)

Quebec (Montreal)

Here is for Quebec (Montreal)

1. Join the gun club, get membership, pass the club safety course, get your membership card.

2. Order your Restricted. Seller will initialize the transfer thru CFO. If you are in the same province it may take faster than if you are in different ones.

3. As soon as CFO will start processing your file one or both of your references will be called. They will be asked if they do not mind for you to have a handgun.

4. You will get a call from CFO. You will be asked to fill the application for Long Term Autorization to Transport. You have two choices here: ask your gun club to do it for you or do it by your self. Do not forget to include copy of your membership card with it. Mail it to CFO as soon as possible since without having this application they can not finish processing of your transaction.

5. If everything is OK and your transaction has been aprooved by CFO you get your LTATT and TATT (to pick your gun from post office or from the store) in mail in couple of days.

6. By the same time your seller will let you know that you may pick up your new toy or that it has been shipped to you by mail.

7. Get it and have fun, but aways remember: SAFETY FIRST :)

As of October 2008 it took me 10 business days from ordering my new restricted in Ontario until getting aprooval from CFO and another two days to get my papers in mail.
