ATT's what you need to know

Has anyone ever been denied a ATT? If so why? also i am wondering how long after the seller initiated the transfer you should contact the CFO to confirm the purchase?

This was one notable case:

Most discussion about ATT's is in the Legalese Forum.

The Seller, upon the initiation of the transfer, is given a transfer reference number. The Seller usually provides this number to the Buyer. The Buyer, on his or her own time and with the transfer reference number at hand, may call the CFP and/or CFO to inquire about the status of the transfer.

Att

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a question. My ATT is valid for two years and states the name of the gun club i'm a member of on it. Does this ATT allow me to transport to another range within the same province if i'm invited as a guest? And what does frequency of Transport -one time request mean? Does this mean my att only had to be requested once? or surely it can't mean that I can only transport once? I'm in Ontario. Thanks.

now I am no expert, but normaly if your Ltatt is good for the prov. it will say so, mine specificaly says all approved ranges in the prov. as for frequancy mine also says from 00;00 to 00:00 7 days a week and would normally end when your RPAL is due. I assume that your club had to make the application for you (depending on location) and it would be up to them as to the specifics on the LTATT. But it sounds like you will need a STATT if you want to go anywere else

If the club was not involved phone you provincial CFO

Once I received my RPAL...

- I bought a restricted firearm from a fellow Gunnut;
- Gunnut intiated a transfer;
- I called in to complete my portion of the transfer;
- Dossier passed on to CFO
- CFO sends me a letter asking for a) a photocopy of my club membership and b) a completed form 679
- CFO sends me a notice of transfer (buyer), a temp ATT for retrieval of firearm from place of purchase and a LTATT for my club, valid until my club membership expires - December 31.
- Seller receives confirmation of transfer.
- Seller sends firearm to me.

Note that I had not yet passed my Law 9 exam. I did that, using my own restricted firearm, this past weekend. Huge stupid hole in this law - you need to pass the law 9 exam to get a club membership. You need your club membership to get a restricted firearm. You need a restricted firearm to pass the law 9 exam.

Essentially, they have placed the responsibility of firearm lending/rentals on the clubs. My club operates on a non-profit range and does not have rentals. This law needs to be amended somehow in order to allow a grace period from the time you purchase your first restricted to the time you can get to the club to pass the law 9 exam.

Hi guys

This might be a dumb question but please humour me.
Is there anywhere or time you can shoot a restricted handgun anywhere other than a shooting range? (hunting, crown land, owned land)

Thanks

Buying a restricted Firearm before you have the appropriate PAL.

No one is going to sell you a restricted firearm without a restricted PAL. That is illegal. Some dealers allow you to put a deposit on a particular firearm pending issuance of the appropriate PAL.

You can buy anything from anyone in Canada. In the case of a firearm you need to have licence to get it registered and take out of the store. No matter what the egg heads say in Ottawa, a contract is, an offer to sell, and offer to buy and an exchange of some compensation, that is a sale. All the rest is just paperwork!

I belong to the Lake of the Woods gunclub. I lived in Alberta for 32 years before moving here. The CFOs office and the gunclub say I have to qualify at the club and then 3 times a year to get an ATT. The gunclub has to sanction the ATT? What is with this crap?

ex RCR and damn proud of it!

Here's my BC timeline:
Faxed in forms for ATT: Jan 5th.
Documents faxed were Application Form (downloaded from Gun Club, already pre-filled) RPAL, Club Membership.
Received ATT: Jan 18th. Exactly 10 working days. Pretty good service if you ask me!

I did the club level ATT course 2 weeks before Christmas and I'm still waiting. The club sent in the ATT apps on our behalf. How long should I wait before calling? Don't want to be a pest.

That's too long man! I'd call your club first, to check what date they sent it in. With that date, you can have a 'meaningful' discussion with your CFO. You're a patient man!

That was actually pretty slow for BC. I spoke to them yesterday and was told that they are really busy right now. Sounds like LTATT's are one to two weeks right now. Normally a week in BC I think. Better than what you have to go through in Ontario though :eek: (that's just not right IMHO)

I agree, but I'm concerned that if I call and pester them, they'll find a way to put it at the bottom of the pile and make me wait even longer. I know that's irrational and they'd never do that but all the same I think maybe they would just because they can. :)

I enquired of the Gun Club and was told NOT to ask the CFC about LTATT status as it's been seen before where this delays the process. So for anyone else wondering and waiting like me just be patient and have fun at the range with the unrestricteds.

Another Restricted - ATT Question

Already own one restricted with a valid ATT for 5 years. Thinking of purchasing another restricted. My question is do I have to apply for another ATT to cover the new purchase or will my current valid ATT cover it as well?

My experience, in AB, this month, was; I had to obtain a one day ATT in order to take the item home, even though I have an ATT good for any approved range in AB until 2013.
