Auto or revolver for home defence?

True.

At the very least/easiest, your 'home defense' gun would be a non-restricted no bolt in one room, and the bolt+ammo in another. I think that's the easiest and quickest way to get to a loaded status.

Now, if you're cornered in the same room as your gun safe, that's different ;)

Snap on cabinet in the bedroom closet would be a good choice for keeping a gun relatively handy and still legally stored...

The mere sight of a homeowner armed with a samurai sword or Viking broad axe should be sufficient to scare the s**t out of any potential miscreant! They certainly wouldn't anticipate an armed homeowner in the first place and the thought of having a limb lopped off should produce a reaction in the perp that would be wonderful to behold. :)

ps- love the dog... and the red wall.

Assuming the OP's question might be legit, "shredder's" advice is good. In relatively-civil Canada you're unlikely to be facing 4 or 5 assailants. Even the measly 6 rounds from a revolver should be sufficient even in the highly unlikely event that one actually has to fire. I've read threads on the S&W Forum where some folks are confident with a 5-round .38 for concealed carry.

The only problem with that is if they've got a gun, you just brought a knife (a big knife perhaps) to a gun fight...

Room for a pistol and 2 loaded mags (not in the gun obviously)...no code, just tap with your RFID wristband and voila. Accessed and loaded in less than 2 seconds.

I’ve said this before but... homes are quite large, a simple handgun may not be enough to take down a maurading house, would have better luck with explosives.

Agreed, The minimum gun I would want for home defence is a 105mm Howitzer, Direct fire.

A pistol or revolver will just put 5-10 holes that might barely penetrate the outer skin.

If it’s a mobile home it could become complicated, they are much more nimble and can present a smaller sillouette

To answer the original question - what ever gun you can control in the middle of the night without fumbling. It might boil down to what you have on hand.

"Beware the man with one gun. He probably knows how to use it."

One advantage of a revolver is that it doesn't shuck it's brass all over the landscape. If 6 rds doesn't settle the matter, you can empty a revolver in your hand and dispose of the brass in a manner that it cannot be found and used as evidence.

Prosecutor - "Why did you empty the gun into the accused/deceased?" Honest answer - "Because I didn't have any more ammunition." More reasonable answer - "I fired until the threat was over."

Yeah, perhaps having more of a rapid-fire system like a MK-19 automatic grenade launcher would be a good idea.

Larger homes would take multiple hits to take down, but not even the nimble mobile homes could our maneuver automatic fire.

Then again, perhaps a bow and arrow with some flaming arrows would do the trick for a lot less money.

^ jeesus.. maybe get an alarm like, uh, damn, forgot that movie title where for 24hours you can do whatever you want, no law... fk!

The purge. The tag line for one is them is "keep America great". Still wondering if trump is going to try and use that line for the next election... Lol

This thread is crazy. We are not allowed to defend ourselves , we are expected to wait for the cops while we get beaten or shot.
But if I had to choose SXS 10 ga.Cut one guy in half the others won’t hang around too long!

I rely on "fully automatic" Akita's at my place...

They just lounge around until needed, though. :)
