Auto or revolver for home defence?

The Stanley case proved that almost any old piece of crap gun will work for the purposes of defense and that we all tend to overthink this topic.
 
No self defence here, we are allowed to call 911, or the coroner.
If you use a firearm for self defence you better be an American, or die during the crime. If not you will be in more trouble than the attacker.
Guns are allowed to be used to protect police, and money.
 
Revolver. Ejected casings from a semi-auto could chip the paint on a wall. I don't want to spend my time off painting another wall, the one behind the intruder is enough.

I know you’re mostly being tongue in cheek, but I just can’t comprehend the number of folks on here who think being dragged through the courts is somehow a worse fate than seeing your family harmed by a home intruder.

It sucked for Stanley to have to fight that for a few years in court. But a gang of armed thrives rolled up on him, his wife, and his son. Had he not had the tools he needed to defend his family on hand, he may well have been in a much, much suckier place.

Even if there were laws (there are not) prohibiting one from defending their family with a firearm, I would happily break that law to protect those who make up my entire world.
 
I always thought this was a great take on home defence and the 2nd Amendment in the US - probably better than a semi-auto or revolver here in Canada too, as everything in this scenario is non-restricted and less likely to be viewed as eeeevil by the overlords...

The correct answer is obviously arm yourself with tea and biscuits to offer the nice individuals who mistakenly entered your home. Don't forget to bring the zip ties so they can securely keep you out of the way while they redistribute the wealth in your home.

Wouldn't want to make them feel anymore like victims than they already are.

Edit: on a more serious note, any of your options would work. However a Halberd/Long sword/mace would scare the piss out of any intruder. Particularly when combined with some sort of angry German words.
 
The way I see it is if there is ever a situation where you need to protect yourself, you will likely scramble and not be able to calmly grab and load a gun in time before #### hits the fan anyhow. The chances you'll ever need to shoot an intruder are very very unlikely. Lock your doors and set the alarm unless they are known to you and are coming for something they will run like a little school girls when the alarm goes off.

That is so true! $15000.00 (Canadian!) later, the Crown withdrew the charges! I could not sue! It never happened. I could write a book on it all. But at 82 YOA, my second Wife of 25 years and I totally happy, only the odd huricane to worry about? Can't be bad.
