I was in a shop the other day and was picking the guys brain about accessories and such for the cz 858. One thing the guy mentioned was that the gravy train of newly manufactured cz 858 accesories and cheap surplus ammo will soon be coming to an end. The reason for this according to "the guy" is because surplus ammo in this caliber will soon be coming to an end. Having said that, accesories for firearms in this caliber will also dwindle due to a lack of demand. Is there any truth to this or was the guy just trying to sell me on a case of surplus ammo? How many years left of this ammo do you think are left? Are there any other companies out there still manufacturing this caliber that's readily available in Canada?

This.
Will x39 ammo run dry? I couldn't say for sure, but there may be dry spells between loads. We've been lucky the past couple years with a good supply of surplus. Also we now have non-surplus (MFS, Prvi) options.

Who cares if the surplus dries up. You can buy MFS 7.62x39 FMJ at $6.50 per 20, you can't even load that cheap unless you're using Berry's bullets, then you still have to do all the work for marginal accuracy gains, and then you have to find all the brass.

Where did you find it for $6.50? Locally is about $12/20 around here. As for the "surplus ammo is drying up scare" It happens a couple times a year on the backchannels but its simply riff raff, nothing more. Maybe that shop was having a tough time finding it from distributors or something but there is lots out there. And as for newly mfr'd VZ accessories, those arent going anywhere. You can bet that.

Last time I bought a case of 7.62X25 at Lever they told me it was the last they would be getting??

I have heard the Czech suprlus 7.62X39 is now gone but wonder about all the other ex Iron Curtain countries that used it. Have never seen any from Poland or the Ukraine and wonder what they did with theirs?

It's because you're looking at the online vendors who want $10.50 for FMJ and $12.00 for the soft points. These are the same vendors who always go on about how they're not gouging lol

Island Outfitters in Victoria has the stuff for $6.50 a box, and their overhead is pretty damn high.

to everyone that believes false rumours from their local dealers, look at what Canam says on the first page.

Prices may go up if it is newly manufactured but I dont care so long as it keeps coming in. Inflation is everywhere and happens all the time.

I mentioned in my post that its $12 locally. Shipping from Victoria would kill the deal for me though.

I bought a 700 round spam can of x39 from the Army Navy store in Halifax that turned out to be Polish, the casings were a greenish black. It shot reasonably well except for around 7 failures to fire.

As for ammo from the Ukraine, the 7.62x39 that Trade-Ex was selling with the free shipping a few weeks ago is labelled on every box as being made in the Urgansk factory in the Ukraine. According to the headstamp, I think it was made in 1951. It's been shooting fine for me so far.

I sthe MFS stuff steel core or lead and is it considered milsurp?

The cheapest I've been able to find MFS locally is $9.00 for a box. Buying it online is often not worth the cost of shipping it.

As long as there are AK-47's in the world there will always be 7.62x39, and I don't see AK's going anywhere for a really really long time.
