B+T APC223 SBR Review

I have experienced at least 3 light primer strikes with the same ammo. Sorry Ill have to check the ammo can later but it was .55 grain remington bulk FMJ, don't recall the exact model. I may have had one with norinco yellow box too (pretty sure that was it) but that can hardly be blamed on the gun, I should give my head a shake for even sticking that garbage into this swiss watch but oh well. To be honest I have had light primer strikes far more often with the TAVOR-7 using surplus portuguese ball and another boxed surplus round than I have had with the APC (not sure if the TAVOR-7 is set up for commercial primers only it shouldnt be) I like shooting this gun and the ACR DMR from the bench. The ACR has yet to malfunction once, costs less, but its a brick (even heavier than the APC). If I had to choose between the ACR and the stock APC with the OEM butstock .... It would be a tossup. I never appreciated the soft recoil impulse (this thing doesn't move on the bench) until I shot a G36 right after lol. Im not saying 5.56 has a lot of recoil but man is there ever a difference between some guns shooting the same caliber. I hardly shot this gun for over a year since getting it because of my intense hatred of the OEM stock. Too short, too low. If you have one of these guns put on the (dan Haga?) conversion block and the ACR folding stock. Yeah not cheap and it sucks to spend more money on a gun this expensive but I was at the point why not do something so I can actually like shooting it? Now I love it, feels perfect.

Someone posted this is an AR-180 for 3x the price. No, no it is not. It is only the similar in that they are both semi auto 5.56's. The quality of craftsmanship is not comparable. Handle both. Shoot both. I have. Then decide if they are the same.

Ordered the NR. In the mail. Bought a variety of ammo the other day. Looking forward to its arrival. Having never handled one I really hope the stock works for me. I’d love to see some more reviews as well.

So the one I've first hand action with on multiple range outings:
-shaved copper jackets on the extra sharp feed lips. Marks seen on ejected ftf rounds. The jackets were cut up

-ftf, later rectified somewhat by a replacement gas block meant for 556 over 223. Got a trip back to the store

-light primer strikes

-bolt cracked, on its way back to store again.

Couple of months old. I won't be looking at this gun as an NR option.

Any advice on the gas plug removal?

I turned it 180 clockwise as in manual, it is not coming out. Just rotating. If it was caked with carbon , it wouldn't rotate at all?

You’ll need a rubber hammer as to not damage any parts. Gently tap the gas plug outwards (towards the front of the barrel) and push/ pull in between every so often and it should come loose after a while. The idea is to break off some of the carbon that built up around the plug.

What parts did you need to replace on your gun to fix FTF or FTE or light primer strikes or whatever your issue(s) were?

I recently received replacement parts for my APC223, which included a heavier spring, firing pin and retaining pin. They said that should fix my light primer strike problem.
I’ll post an updated review once I’m able to test out the new parts.

How many rounds are you guys putting through before cleaning that is causing the removal problems?

After around 50 i have a tight inner gas piston. Need pliers to remove it.
outer piston has to wiggle out, its tight too.

However i do have to say - i could probably just never clean it, i just enjoy doing it.
Been running CPD mags and federal ball ammo and its 100% reliable always so far.

I advise reading the apc556 service manual and lubing it with tw25b or something like they show - it really helps it wiggle out.

You don’t really have to clean it unless you’re planning to switch to suppressed mode
For me, it cakes up pretty bad after a few hundred rounds.
These days after a range trip I’ll remove it, wipe it and put it back in. Haven’t had a stuck gas plug since.

yea exactly, its overgassed enough to blow through the crud

This is my single biggest beef with the APC223, and one that has kept me from diving in on one. For the money, they should be coming out of the gate with a quality, adjustable stock from the factory.

That should also take care of that amazing 2 stage trigger in your initial review. The APCs I was exposed to had very average triggers - nothing approaching a match-type AR trigger or as good as the Classic Green/PE-90s

As a consumer I completely agree. However on the other side I can't help but wonder if the price is driven by manufacturer location, quality and production capacity. We all look at the AR15 as an example of $750 for excellent quality but the R&D was paid for in the 1950s.

Not to support over charging, I just think it's often too easy to throw manufacturers under the bus based on price when we often don't know the background or circumstances of getting the product in country.

Also consider some people like the chin-weld mp5 style stock.
I have both and when I go out with friends its 50/50 haga vs standard.

Even myself some days i cant decide, the std one is really light and is fantastic for low sights.
There are pros and cons to both.
