I've hunted and still hunt with Rick, and spent range time with him. I can tell you for a fact that that shot is nothing but pure luck.:p He's getting old and shakey, can't hold a rifle straight anymore and his rythme's and breathing are out to lunch. Ive seen him take a shot at a coyote on the run at extended range and put the shot right through it's neck. In the day he would have popped out an eye but he is loosing it.:) Did you see the picks of the lion he hit in Africa...thing was charging him at less than 50 yrds and he drilled it right between the eye's........if he had any skills at all he would have side stepped, butt stroked the thing on the head and put a round through the lungs and heart, saveing the head for a undamaged mount. You know what it costs to take a lion in Africa, what a waste!! imagine living with the embarssment that you had to shoot a lion between the eyes.:p:evil::evil::D Anyway's Im doing my best to train him, but he is a stubborn fellow. Hope to have him up to speed for the BCRA match next year. Will see how it goes though.;):D:slap::D

We were checking our zero at 600yds first thing this morning and a field sparrow landed on the top right corner of the target. I was spotting and saw the unsuspecting prey land. It wasn't his first shot of the morning and he said he had aimed for the body but he ended up clipping the back of it's neck.

I watched it flutter down infront of the target. My partner wanted to run down there and check it out but after looking through the spotting scope, I confirmed the target was not moving so we continued shooting till our guns needed to cool down. This picture is after we went down to confirm the kill. We set the bird back up on top of the target and you can actually see it through the scope on the top right corner.

LRC you have high hopes for old boy. A year to get him in shooting shape for the match next year... I don't know. Are we allowed to use any of those wizzy tri-pods they use at the matches up in Fort Mac? I hear that's the way the competitions are going. There's hope for him yet. See you this weekend bro. Speaking of getting old, I think it's someone's birthday this weekend...

Heading out this afternoon for a bit of LR plinking. See how the rifles do in the scorching heat. The GOPHER needs a little trimming me thinks.

Aren't you concerned a little about some ricochet material hitting the cattle?

Otherwise, nice setup, shooting downhill into the ground like that.
 
I have yet to hit a match in FT. Mcmurray for some reason they always plan them when I'm working......think they are scared of me:p:D

I was able to hook up with Silverado at the range up here last week and he has an interest in the tactical/ sniper matches so maybe with a few more meetings and some range improvements we can get it going up here, I do believe the interest for long range has realy grown up here in the last couple years, Its great to see some of the rifles hitting the fireing line.

Im not sure what rules you are refering to as far as tripod and rests go Glock, but I assume it is for the rifle rodeo.

Mystic save some of that gopher for us for next year. Im sure we will be returning and maybe with a few more Redneck Prime Rib Eating Albertans.:wave:
 
LRC, looking forward to next year. Will have to consider going earlier then this year. Cows are also being grazed up in that area which is a royal pain. That and the usual traffic means we need to shoot just after the snow melts.

We know Glockamaniac will have the warm 'woolies' taken care of.

Less mirage, cooler pipes - not a bad compromise.

Mystic I've been telling absolutely everyone even south of the border about the fun we had this spring in Summerland. Expect a good turnout next year for sure. We're heading out Saturday again for some more fun.

That would be the Fclass or "unlimited" match class, the only class where front rests are allowed in our matches up here.

The most popular class in the irons match class .
There are also many shooters using bipods up here also.

BC, spent a very nice afternoon yesterday shooting with the new owner of your HS rifle. It did very well out to 1250yds but hit the 'wall' around 1300+yds. Very nice shooting rig.

Glockamaniac, sounds great. Will still limit number of shooters as it becomes an admin headache for me.

That's perfect Mystic, creat a sense of urgency. For those that don't get off the stick soon enough, miss out. Works with me.

Here's something I noticed about the Fort Mac range. If you guys do happen to actually build some nice target stands at longer distances, they won't get beat up by the retards the like the shoot the lights out of the shooting area because obviously they don't realize there's targets further then 200-300yds out. Make sure to bolt everything down though. It's still not beyond them to take a drive to the end of the range for a ram sized paper weight.
