After playing around for ages trying to get mine to work, it turns out the cable I got from canam today required the Ch340 driver that came with it on the mini disc. In the Usb folder there is a subfolder called CH340. I opened the CH341ser.exe file with winrar and extracted all the files to a folder. I then pointed windows to the inf file in that folder and boom, works fine with chirp. Will then show up in device manager as USB-SERIAL CH340 (COMx)

Thanks for the tip on unzipping the file. I couldn't make heads of tails on how that .exe work. I'll give it a try.

Well I have 30 work channels I want to program but instructions that came with the radio are worthless .
Tried on line and found some helpful info but still not happening .
My old M Tech MT-82 was simple this UV5r is not .
I have receive & transmit frequency PL number & band width of the channels I want to program .
Can't seem to find correct way to input & save them

Not using a programing cable .
I can load the receive & transmit channels .
But the TX DCS code ( to trip repeaters) for some of my channels are DPL 32 code
I need to know what DPL32 = in a CTCSS / DCS #
(CTCSS is an analog system. A later Digital-Coded Squelch (DCS) system was developed by Motorola under the trademarked name Digital Private Line (DPL).

Used these last weekend for a cadet training Ex and expedition. My group did a 20km loop over two days within 5km of base camp. The radios worked well until line of sight became obstructed by hills otherwise worked well and great clarity when in the forest.

S9's Tip regarding the CD driver and winrar worked for Win7 64bit but Vista 32bit can't load it for all who are running into code 10 error.

Thanks again S9. :)

Get The (Chinese) Radio Documentation Project manual, it has a table (p. 62) with numbers to create the DCS codes.

I had to fiddle with the driver set up but the one from the mini CD that came with the cable worked eventually. This was on a Dell Latitude 5500 running Windows 10 with the latest updates.

I tried the cable with no software, it showed up in Device Manager but with no driver. I used 7ZIP to unpack the EXE file, then was able to update the driver by pointing to the file in the USB folder. Still not working until I checked the COM port in Device Manager, it was COM4 and CHIRP was defaulting to COM3. I changed the port in CHIRP and it it could see the radio, so I downloaded the radio settings and saved them to a file. Then I was able to add and adjust frequencies in CHIRP, save it as a new file, and upload to the radio.

Snapshot

I just installed the latest version of Chirp on my new laptop and once I turned the volume control on my UV82 to max, the software connected with the radio and runs perfectly.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the USB to connect USB error This device cannot start code 10). Issue is possibly a counterfeit chip inside the USB. Found a possible solution trying to resolve as I type. Keep you guys updated on a solution.

I had the same issue with one of my two cables. The one that said Baofeng on it was the one with the isue. The one with no name worked fine.
Only solution I found after hours, days of trying before the second cable arrived was a new CP2102 chip from ebay (about $2-3). After soldering in the new chip (an easy job, just 3 wires) it worked right away. As soon as I plugged it in, it found one of the many drivers I had already installed.

Gave up on the disk, downloaded chirp and things are rolling along fine, programing channels and the two baofengs can send and receive to each other fine on FRS channels but a Motorola frs only hears the baofengs, can't TX back to them but the Baofeng lights up as it is receiving a signal but no sound, hmm, will keep playing with it.

Do you have the codes set properly?

Ordered a radio, cable, etc on Thanksgiving weekend, still waiting to get it. Would like to have it with me when I go hunting.
