Which bullpup?!

My eyes say Tavor but my budget says I will likely wind up with the T97...

As a right handed shooter, and as former owner of the Tavor and current owner ot the T97, I'd give my vote to the T97.

It is true that the T97 is inferior to the Tavor in most aspects (ergonomics, looks, practicality, etc,), but with the going price of a Tavor (±2750$) compared to the price of a T97 (±1000$), I do not think that the Tavor is 2.7 times better than the T97.

Bang-for-your-buck, T97, even if I find it inferior to the Tavor on all aspects except for the pricing.

Agreed... now if anybody has any sugar mommies laying around doing nothing, that would be a different story.

T97 and $1700 left in your pocket. Get the flat top and a top of the line optic, leave the safety off and action open, dont cry cause a mag doesnt fit and fix it! Its a chunk of steel for crying out loud. Maby i like it because i have 2 vehicles, 0 cup holders and 6 ashtrays.

That's like asking - Mercedes or Hyundai?

Back in the days of the Hyundai Pony, that would have been an easy decision. The Pony was the worst piece of crap on the road (until the Yugo came along). Now Hyundai manufactures some of the best designed and built automobiles in the world and still sells them for a fraction of Mercedes prices.

Anyone remember the Pontiac Firenza? I can still picture in my mind the last Firenza I ever saw, sitting in a parking lot ... burning.

The pony was a nightmare. The auto was totally gutless, at least the stick could be revved up for a little power. The elantra was actually pleasant to drive, would get it if resale value was not an issue.

I got the T97 cause it is one of MANY firearms that I shoot occasionally. If it was my primary and nothing else then splurge on the TAVOR. I splurged on my precision rifle that is consuming all my funds.

^^^ This guy.

I've shot both. I own only the T97. For the cost difference, I've put that towards ammo and eventually something else. The FTU is really nice, I opted for the proper YMA-95. Not perfect, but way cheaper and just as fun.

have used shot tavor before, liked the feel but not the size of the gun... seen a T97 in person, seemed to shoot good and handle well! i would probably go with the T97 Pending the little fixes

.

My question is: why let the Tavor go in the first place...

The wife wont let me have either, so i dont have to think about which one...now , once they make a 7.62 tavor...i dont care what she says, Im gonna get me some fine israeli work of art!

Tavor

- heavy
- 10 pound trigger pull
- 3 moa at best with good ammo
- 2700 dollars???? wtf???
- Just doesent feel good

Type 97

- light weight
- 6 pound creepy trigger
- shoots minute of man at 300 meters
- only a grand to own
- slim and easy to carry

Ive owned both rifles in the past year and only kept the type 97. The tavor I think is mostly "hype" while the type 97 is nothing special either price wise it wins and is lighter, slimmer profile (easier to carry slung) and has a better trigger.

I would love the Tavor but its 3x the price of the T97... I just picked up the Norinco and love it. Definitely picking up the FTU from t97.ca asap to address some issues and my buddy can potentially mod a thumb safety. magazine release you get used to

Like most western rifles, to much intricate parts. Saw videos of detail stripping of Tavor. To many fine machining that makes the Tavor expensive, To many screws and pins to keep the Tavor together. The T97 is based on the KISS system. Detail stripping of the T97 is simple and few components like the AK. Most components of the T97/QBZ-95 and AK are interlocking. Lots of videos of the T97/QBZ-95 reliability. The Tavor had issues before the Israeli army adopted it. The Tavor feels bulky and the T97 feels slim and trim. The T97 carries well and points well. That been said, I still love to own a Tavor.

The latest QBZ-95-1 have addressed the safety issue. Hope Norinco will incorporate the fixes to the T97 too. That been said, I still love to own a Tavor. The AKs are cheap too and most professional merc's prefer the AK.

Think I saw a Chinese Parade on the Tele and the soldiers in the front were carrying the Type 97. Hard to beat. The Chinese are buying our debt and putting people out of business here though.

Sigh!

Tavor - even being cheaper norcs have too many issues both ergonomically and mechanically. Their quality has come up but nowhere near the degree that it'd make me inclined to spend $1000 on one. Rather spend extra on a gun such as the tavor.

Ergonomics is very personal, comments indicates luv/hate for both rifles.

Quality keeps coming up but with no specifics. Are these referencing build/reliability quality or aesthetics. For me goes bang every time is quality, don't fondle my guns so won't pay extra for shine/polish.

As to China putting us out of business, did they do it to us or did we do it to ourselves. I'd pay 1.5x for a better quality T97 equivalent build in Canada BUT not holding my breath!!!

I have held a T97 at a shop and was very surprised how it felt. Felt better than some Kel-Tec stuff I held... definitely worth the $grand if it goes bang. I do like the Kel-tec RFB but it's a bit heavy.

The only things wrong with the Tavor is the price and the weight of the trigger pull.

The only things wrong with the T97 is:
-poor iron sights
-Non existent feed ramp results in bullets pushed deep inside of casings
-Barrel gouge
-difficult to mount sights to with out up-gradeing
-poor mag release
-no bolt release
-terrible safety, which I find results in the safety not being used
-poorly placed RECIPROCATING charging handle
-odd ball commie muzzle threads
-terrible mag compatibility
-more difficult to field strip and put back together (more loose pieces)
-no spare parts to be had
-Not lefty compatible comfortably with out modification

Thats just off the top of my head.
I know there is much more.

But look at all the $ you have to fix any of the problems on the exagerated list that really bother you ... the T97 is a workhorse not a safe queen :)
