bc transfer time

Side Question. I have an latt good for borders, gunsmiths, and ranges. Do I need anither ATT to pick up my pistol from Reliable in Burnaby and Bring it home? If so, can I get it in advanced?

funny how it says gunsmiths on the LTATT but when I bought a pistol from a gunsmith I even had to get a separate STATT, pretty freakin idiotic.

Isnt there some way to do a personal transfer at the range though?

I just called about my dealer transfer that was started a week ago. They tell me it will be at least two more weeks to complete.

This is getting stupid.

I'd encourage everyone to send in a complaint to cfp-pcaf@rcmp-grc.gc.ca and CC:
  • Your MP (regardless of party)
  • vic.toews@parl.gc.ca
  • cheryl.gallant@parl.gc.ca (who is collecting the CFO petition)
  • info@cdnshootingsports.org
  • info@nfa.ca

The more emails/letters we send the more likely it is that somebody will notice.

Transfers should be approved within a few hours according to the CFP website: hxxp://www.rcmp.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/facts-faits/index-eng.htm

Why you need a STATT just to take your gun home, when you already have a LTATT is beyond me.

Asked CFO the same question... their explanation (like it or not) was that the restricted "gun" has never been to my house before, thus LTATT would not applied until the "gun" has been stored in my house for the first time. Once it has been stored at my house, then LTATT would apply... go figure !

That's just about the worst BS I've ever heard. But the fact is, they approve the STATT at the same time they approve the transfer. I really doubt they would process your transfer any faster if you didn't need an STATT just because you were buying from a licensed gunsmith.

It's almost like there is a certain amount of delay built into the system that must be met! For years 3 days was the norm for a resticted transfer in BC and Other provinces complained about long waits..... now we are waiting for a month and other provinces are getting the 3 day treatment.
It's a good think the BC office has all the extra outside help for the last 6 months!

I think I going to draft up a complaint letter later.
Tried phoning the BC cfo today, after 20 minutes of waiting I hung up. I had stuff to do.
Im starting my third week now.

Are the people who are getting 2-3 day transfer times asking for priority treatment? Or is this really just random?

Email sent and follow up phone call will be made to my MP tomorrow.

We'll see if the email helps me or slows it down even more.

What a bunch of BS! First come first serve....quit pandering to the whiners and get back to the 3 day program already!
They've completely lost control when they start caving like this.....Madness.

I think it is important that we don't stop complaining when our transfers get approved. I suspect that they are trying to minimize complaints by just doing the transfers of the people who make a fuss. But that doesn't excuse their delays.

It is completely reasonable for us to demand that transfers be completed within a few hours. That is how long the CFP website says it should take.

If we let them get away with just greasing the squeaky wheels, then things won't improve. We'll end up needing to make a bunch of phone calls and threaten complaints every time we want something done within a reasonable amount of time. We need to push for a real solution.

Well boys I called again today to look in to my transfer and was told that it still hasn't been approved, it has been 2 weeks now. I then asked for the CFO email address and was instead transferred to Miramichi. I then told the person I was talking to that it was unacceptable that its taking up to 6 weeks for a private transfer to be completed as gun stores are completed in 3 to 4 business days and if they could explain why this is. I was then put on hold , 3 min later she came back on the line and told me my transfer is now complete and with in 2 more minutes I had my short term ATT. I again asked why dealers were being give priority over private sales and was given no answer. I told her that was unfair to private sales and every time they did this it makes the waiting time for private sale that much longer. She then told me that Miramichi is now handling the long list of backlogged transfers in BC. So if your done with waiting you need to ask for the email address for the CFO, it will only take 3 minutes.
Cheers.

I tried something similar, didn't get anywhere. Tried the gunstore line and was told that "businesses have more priority because they are pushing a product out the door" What crap. Told her I wanted the CFO email, and I got it. Guess I can CC my compalint to the cfo aswell.
