BCL102 Range Review, SECOND RANGE TRIP POST 123!!!

Any one know if the barrel extension is ar10?

I tried to get the barrel out but it didn't want to come out. Sorry :/

What's the weight savings driller212???

Cheers
Jay

My rifle weighed 9lbs so 0.6lbs. Not too shabby! She now weighs 8.4lbs dry, and 11.2 with bipod and scope. I will take some more pics as well.

You could probably get away with a 8" or 10" handguard on this thing.

Those Armalite handguards are pigs in their own right so I'd say not much if any.

Over a pound??!! I'm surprised. The BCL handguards must weigh a ton. Any chance of weighing the handguard with barrel but?

I cant seem to figure it out. The nut in front of the barrel nut is attached to the threading (receiver extension?) and the barrel nut itself doesnt look like it can slide over it.

I would suggest that the fluted piece is the collar to which the handguard is attached. It screws onto the upper receiver. The barrel is retained by the collar with the wrench flats; it screws into the handguard mounting collar.

I had a closer look today at this system. To my untrained eye, it appears as though the outer 'collar' could possibly slide over top of the 'barrel nut'. After taking a thread pitch gauge to the portion of the threads that are exposed on the barrel nut, I come up with 18 TPI with an outer diameter of 1-7/8" - not too sure what spec that is so hopefully someone can confirm DPMS or Armalite or whatever.

On a related note, I removed the two set screws which hold the gas block on and removed the gas block and gas tube. The diameter under the gas block I found to be 0.875". Much like my muzzle brake, the set screws came out surprisingly easy - people may want to check torque on their own rifles.

see above, it is armalite threaded. the barrel nut is 2-piece I will take a pic:

OK, just to clarify - what holds the barrel to the upper receiver?
Thinking in terms of fitting a different barrel.

I think the nut on the left (the one that actually looks like a nut) holds it in place. It has the pin facing upwards just like other AR rifles, I just had trouble removing the barrel so I didn't bother.

Holy chite, the MI is listed at 351.5g :) that will be a huge improvement

Yea it should be. I would say based on my numerous scale readings it is in between 1.5 and 2.2 lbs, and that is including the barrel nut. I suspect most manufacturers list the weight of the handguard without the barrel nut to make it sound lighter.

Yeah thats for sure, But the NEA one is ugly as sin. so either way its a good change... :)

Now I need to save up for a Nightforce SHV 5-20 and some ATRS rings :) before IOP comes out.
