BCRA Tactical rifle championship 2007

Thanks for the feedback Skullboy. I've always been interested in long range, and now I understand the difference between what a Precision rig can do compared to my lightweight hunting rifle. Looking at my records from last year, the best I've done with the Tikka (waiting for the barrel to cool down is painful) is 3/4" at 100m, and 2.5" at 200m. At least I know the benchmark I need to achieve for this type of competition.

I think I might be looking for an upgrade to a Savage 12BVSS or something like it. I take it you normally use something with a 24-26" heavy barrel?

I have edited the first post to reflect the changes to the program, and the rules are more defined. This is the final draft, nothing else will change from here on in. Entry sheets go out Feb.1st by e-mail. PM me your e-mail addy if you want one.

The clay holders need redesigning to prevent the shrapnel from other hit clays destroying unhit clays, also the mess it creates that I will have to clean up before I can catch the ferry, also the pain in the ass of the logistics of me getting clays and transporting them or relying on someone to actually get that done with an absolute guarantee the clays will be there and be unbroken on Saturday, also taking care of the safety glasses for the markers and the fact it will be marked by cadets this year and they may not be happy about getting a clay shower. Altogether too much of a pain in the ass for my first time doing this, I am already working on the replacement of our roofprops and that is not easy to come up with the material for 20 roofs, plus the other items involved like talking to past directors and competitors of this match so I can complete the rule changes, the course of fire, and the entry forms so it can go out in the spring mailout. Pricing and organizing the T-shirts, trophies and awards, Talking to the different police departments trying to bolster participation, Talking to potential sponsors and past sponsors, Talking to Potential range staff, Compiling a list of e-mail addys for the entry forms to go out in three days, and lastly printing targets for the different matches. Organizing this is a lot of work, ask Ryan. Managing to do all this while having a family that comes first, a job that is second, and still wanting to get my rifle out and put some rounds down range.......So no Clays this year, maybe next year

I am messing around with T-shirt ideas. Here is the front, disregard the picture of the back. I am hoping to find a basic 4 colour pic 6x12", anybody have any cool picture ideas for the back?
BCRA_Shirt_Sample_color.jpg

Damn picture is too small and I can't figure out how to fix it!
How did it do that, it fixed itself?
As I said I am looking for something on the back, that was just there as an experiment, maybe it will stay under the picture on the back, the sponsors of this event will have their logos on the back in black under the pic.

I like it! I think the back should be a little more "spiffy" though (maybe a bigger font?), and the reticle in "2007" on the back is a little hard to see.

Longshot: I figure you'll probably know the most about this.
More likely than not I won't be able to have the Cpl. at my unit as my partner, so I'm wondering if you have any idea as to whether or not I'll be able to "represent" my unit without permission? The entry form has a space for "unit representing" if you select Military; do you know if I'll have to get permission before I fill that in?

Thanks,
-Rohann

Well you can represent Gengis Khan or anyone you like. You don't have to get permission for that, but you will to wear your uniform.Send it up through your chain stating that you will be shooting at a sanctioned BCRA shooting match which will be attended by other units from the Vancouver area and would like to represent yours there too.Chances are they will say yes.If they want to pay you then thats a bonus but they may try to not allow it because of funding issues.Tell them your not looking for pay and are going to the match anyways.
Try and bring a partner, it will help to shoot with the same person to get used to how they operate. If you don't know anything you will learn the lessons together.

On another note have you met a young guy last name Prestie at that unit?

Haha oh ok. I'll ask about wearing my uniform, but I'm not entirely sure if I'll end up wanting to do that anyways; if it's going to be really hot then I'll probably end up wearing something else. I'll definately ask about representing the unit though; what other units around there are competing that you know of?
I talked to a Cpl. at my unit who I thought I was going to shoot with, but it turns out that his PLQ course will running by the time the match comes around. I'm not sure who I'll be shooting with now, so I'm open to suggestions (I know Blackcloud was looking for a partner).
I believe I have met him; do you have any idea as to when he joined up? The guy I'm thinking of is "Preston", but I remember him being called "Prestie" before. He is (rather, was, until I got RTU'ed) on my BMQ course, and joined up probably about 5 months ago.

EDIT: Sorry about that LS, I know who you're talking about now; was mistaken there. He was on my first BMQ/SQ course over the summer in Chilliwack.

I don'e see a problem as long as you have a current BCRA membership.

PM Parker Hale-Mike just to be sure on this.In the past members have shot only one day................

I'm not sure if I'll end up wearing my uniform, unless it's specifically for representing my unit. What other units are being represented that you guys know of?

Is there anytime Volkes is open to public?

i would love just trying 300-600 M shooting.

I see on the BCRA site they have 300m practice? Anyone go to that?

Buy a BCRA membership, get a partner and show up to the shoot, nobody will look down upon you if you are not Carlos Hathcock. Too many people are afraid to "look bad"...if anything it will help you to show up and shoot, you may learn something and meet some real good people. Give it a try!

What if you don't have a partner? Also, does having a BCRA membership mean you can shoot the 'Club300' matches in Mission?

You don't need a parnter. You will be paired up with a partner at the match.

A full BCRA membership is required for shooting the Practice sessions at Vokes.AN associate BCRA membership allowes you to shoot in the Championship matches only.

I think the "Club 300" matches/practices at Mission are just Run by Mission and do not require a BCRA membership.

Contact the Rifle Chairman @ Mission to confirm this.

not worried about looking bad, just worried about looking dumb :)

So 124 rds in 1 day? or is the match over 2 days?

Just wondering because my barrel is not a heavy one, so it will be glowing red.
