bear baits

Why don't we have a debate on bear baiting in a separate thread... instead of hijacking other members threads with this contentious issue???

Probably a good idea :) Or - we could just let that part of the conversation die, which would be a spectacular idea. :)

If I could road hunt bear and stalk in our area I would. Hard to do in tag alders. In over 35 years moose hunting only seen maybe a dozen bear. In spring and now with no spring bear it is a different story. Wouldn't driving around in winter looking for coyotes or baitng for them be same as some of us hunt bears?

ugg hate 2 strokes, when i hunt moose in the fall i dont usualy see any bears then again im not really looking for them, see lots in the spring traveling back and forth from here to quesnel to williams lake to mcbride, all along the highways.

well yes its true we cannot bait bears in BC but I do know from a relative afar that a gunnysack with bananas and molasses works rather well hanging from a tree , as for bear hunting and I think I can speek for Moosehunter as well we can go out any given evening and count 20-30 bears in our area without even trying so baiting here would be a waste of time IMHO
If I could see 20-30 bears in an entire season I would never bait again. Takes alot of time, money, and work to run bait sites but it is the only way in our area to see bears.

Ok - lets get off the bear baiting/non baiting stuff and stick to the topic :) we've hijacked that enough, we can start a 'compare and contrast methods for bear' thread if you guys want.

Made them the same offer myself. No need to fight over them though. You can take them, I will take Mommabear, she is easier on the eyes:p But she has to bring a jar of her "World Famous Hot Peppers" Although after eating those I could breathe on a bear from 50yrds and no shot required.

ooooooh, Iv'e been hit;) Well you could do this in BC, but most of us have favorite spots we drive to then walk certain areas. Some bears hear that truck and run like hell. Go figure:confused: Baiting seems like a hell of a lot of work

dw,dw,dw,dw;)

baiting is :talking to the restaurant owners, bakery shop owners
:quadding in for a few miles
: eating lunch at the beaver pond (while shooting the beavers)
: not worrying about a thing for a few hours

So no, its no work at all.

But, your method worked better this year no bear for me just a momma and a cub came for a visit.:(

I'm gonna get a bus seat for the back of my truck so my wife can drive:D

That's how you do it isn't it dw?:D

mump - what part of "get off the baiting/non-baiting stuff and quit hijacking the thread" is confusing to you specifically? :)

Humblest apologies Foxer,

Couldn't resist a fun shot at dw;)

I use old frier grease, wolf carcass, beaver carcasses and a new addition this year was a 300lb quarter off a bull that keeled over in a friends fence. Stink doesn't describe it.

All mixed up in a 45 gallon fuel drum cabled to a tree with rebar webbed and welded through so they have to work at it to get the grub.

i guy at work used to hit the tim hortons after closing and pick up the old donuts and use those along with some honey. he said they loved it until the shot rang out.

The problem here is:

You didn't use big enough letters AND you typed too fast!!!!!

Sounds like a plan! ;)

Beavers are a preferred food for bears... at least here. And if you can get a bunch of beaver carcasses from a trapper... freeze them... you know the rest.

That's something that's confused me. Legally, can a trapper sell the carcass? I would have thought it would be the same as selling bear meat, or other game animals. Beavers are kind of odd in that they can be shot as pests, or trapped for their hide. Puts them into the grey area regarding selling the meat.

What's the scoop?
