Bear defense shotgun

i'm scared to go bear hunting if the bears are arming themselves with shotguns. not sure how they passed the test to get there pals.

I grew up in Surrey, and never had a worry, then went to the Dell, picked up some hell, and she gave me lots to worry...
the answer is simple, my friend, you just get a .300 ultramag and snipe the bears before they get you into shotgun range! :)

"...What do you use?..." Nothing. Yogi and Cindy don't frighten me. I frighten them with just my scent. I respect Yogi and Cindy though. I'll leave her kids alone and give him the trail if he wants it.
In any case, none of us will ever be fast enough if Yogi takes exception to us being where he wants to be. Especially if Yogi is within 100 yards.
No handgun or shotgun round will ever stop Yogi in his tracks either. Physics doesn't allow it.

I'd bet the fellow that was nearly killed at his cabin near Timmins last weekend would rather of had a shotgun in hands than his fingernails scratching it's eyes. I've never been terribly fearsome of bears but listening to his story made me think twice about my forays into the woods.

Utter nonsense.

The HP9 with the Surefire light is my bear SG but any of these long guns will do, especially the 20" .375 H&H on top.

And here's my defense team. The boy on the right may be small but he is tough and brave.

I disagree my 4.25" Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull loaded with 300gr Hornady XTP's has done it and my 870 12 gauge has as well all comes down to shot placement.

Man geologist, no offense intended, but I've never cottoned to the scout scope thingy, they just don't look right to me.

Having said that, I've never tried handling and sighting one of those rigs. Might be okay...?

Btw, Sunray has to be goshing. Cannot be taken seriously at any rate. Me, any excuse I can use to carry a firearm, I'm doing it! I tell everybody I'm terrified of bears, and that's my reason to tote the .338 (or whatever).

For short to intermediate ranges the intermediate eye relief Leupold 2.5x works very well. You keep both eyes open and are on target FAST.

So for me, it is a great rainy day hunting rifle when I'm in the trees and sometimes glassing across a clearcut.

It does make the carbine less pleasant to handle and carry but I often remove the scope (QD rings) if I'm going to be carrying it a lot and/or don't expect to be shooting past 20 yards eg. pre-season scouting or just bumming around or in camp at night.

+3, there's a lot of bad folks out in the woods these days and you definately want something better than a cell phone with the law a few hours away on the other end of it, if you can get a signal, to defend yourself with.

It's only going to get worse too, but I'll be damned if I can't enjoy the outdoors!

I ran into someone I happened to be holding a shotgun when they threatened me then they noticed the gun and shut right up apologized and left the area very quickly. I reported it to the police they knew who it was and they setup a meth lab in the bush and I just happened to walk near it so they went in looking for it (That person got out of jail 1 week earlier) So simply going to the local station explaining what happened some random dude came out of the bush and threatened me for no reason saw my 12 ga and buggered off. They laughed about it because he threatened some other people who went walking down the same trail as well. Lots of pot farms and meth labs in certain areas because the police don't have time to check the woods out and people don't normaly go into certain areas. I like to hike in area were people don't go so I bump into it from time to time.
