Top: unissued blued/bottom: refurb painted (both 1953 Tula arsenal), ATI reconfigured stocks with Amerlock 400 coating, Magwedge rails, BT34 forearm under-rails, stainless bolt cover pins with cord thongs, steel hand guards, black heavy-duty sling...basic platform...ready for scopes/sights/pods...

...here's a pic of the blued rifle with a Harris bipod and a $35 used 4x Accushot scope (WAY to high for every day use, but the right price...useful for working up loads but will be swapped out this winter for something smaller and better once I decide)...this is the more accurate of the two and capable of a 2 - 3" group at 100 yards with hand loads...the bipod also fits my .223 Remington and is mounted there during winter for coyotes

Why not post a couple of pics here... some of you likely have seen these but hey, hope you don't mind.

The SKS I prepared according to my 14 year old son's taste:

And a left-handed SKS, prepared for a friend of mine who had a stroke and now has his right side semi-paralyzed:

Pulled this off the BBC. Pro-Russian soldier. Bayo removed. Russian SKS?

Some of the paint jobs are cool, but nothing I would pay for. I'd rather spend my money on ammo. A flashlight AND a scope? What is the point of that? It takes a lot of cash to make a Volkswagen to look like a Ferrari, but its still only a Volkswagen. For the ridiculous money spent to make them look like an AR, you might as well have bought an AR.

An SKS looks and operates better in its original config, IMO. However, they probably look really cool for someone living in their Mom's basement.

Some cool builds here for sure but I agree. I ordered 2 different receiver covers with rails from 2 different places and couldn't get either one to fit, aftermarket rail mount gas tube turned it into a bolt action no matter how much I scrubbed cleaned and oiled it so I just said f u c k this. For a few bucks more than what I spent I could have bought a entry level .223 with a scope. Which is what I'm gonna do next.

Had this one a while back, loved the stock, but the scope was installed too high..

...like your rig a lot...yes i found the same with a standard scope...too high...going with a reflex sight...and i just have this thing for solid stocks...my choice i know...

and

...no i didn't suppose he had his mag pinned - lol - what does a civilian sks sell for in ukraine? (...probably a lot more right now?)

I don't mind the tactical looking mods but I just love a nice wood stock on a milsurp, maybe my next sks will get a tactical stock and some kind of optic. Here's my 53 Tula.

Here's a lovely thing.

And while I'm here, instead of starting a new thread, can anyone tell me where I can get a thumb hole sporter stock like this for a Russian SKS?

I understand that this stock is from a Norinco Sporter which takes AK mags, but like I said, I want one for my Russian, and I don't want one of the Timbersmith models, I like them more inline like this than the Timber style.

Unless somehow you can get one custom made good luck with that endeavor...

Thanks guys. Ive finally completed it and very happy with its turn out. Dont think I'll do anything else to it.

Stripped and stained a laminate stock to add for the final touch.
