Bergara b14r

Feel free to ask

Okay, thanks, I will. I've read that some Bergara shooters have suggested that replacing the factory barrel with a custom barrel is a good upgrade. As I said above, I don't know anything about the Remington 700 platform or how the barrel is attached. In fact I don't know much about centrefire rifle barrel attachment in general.

What is involved in swapping barrels on the Bergara? As this is a new rifle does that mean there are no aftermarket barrels for it yet? Or are there options already available?

Does barrel changing require a gunsmith with specialized skills? In other words, is a barrel change something that's best left for a gunsmith with an established record of changing barrels rather than a more general-level smithks

Thanks in advance.

I haven’t really looked as of yet, I think it is threaded in. So buy a blank and have it done by a smith. Not sure I would unless I want to keep up to the vudoo. Not really sure how much I would gain but I’m sure there are some from the factory that don’t shoot fantastic so they could benefit more. Any smith could do this but I would be choosy as the rimfire can be finicky

Being a 700 footprint, I'd hazard a guess that the Bergara barrel would be threaded in. Replacing a barrel (especially in 22LR) is indeed a job for an experienced gunsmith with the correct equipment. I usually pay A$800.00 or thereabouts for a quality blank and always use a rimfire specialist to install my 22LR barrels. Even my "cheapie" Mark II's are threaded in but nothing wrong with glued in rim fire barrels either from what I've seen.

Losing investment I'd think if replacing a bbl on one of these right away. Approaching vudoo territory. Be awesome if just the action was for sale. Bergara makes a good bbl though. Have no doubt the vast majority will shoot quite well.

The smith would also have to cut the correctly timed recesses at 9 and 3 o'clock for the extractors into the barrel face as well. Nothing super difficult, just an additional wrinkle versus a regular centerfire barrel job.

This is a nice video on the rifle in question. Seeing the rifle in use with a shooter gives a more complete picture of its proportions.

Thank you for this information. It goes far in explaining what's involved. An experienced gunsmith with the proper tools is certainly a must. The additional cost is something that adds considerably to the overall investment, perhaps a disincentive to all but deep pocketed shooters, a category that doesn't include me.

Nevertheless, continuing along with the possibility of barrel changing with the Bergara to help complete the modification exercise begun above, here's a question about the barrel blanks.

Assuming there are gunsmiths who can install a barrel and chamber it if necessary, are there barrel blanks readily available in Canada that are bored for .22LR -- or do these have to be imported from barrel makers from south of the border?

Was on Facebook rimfire forum was not impressed at all buddy was shooting .7 groups with some match ammo I almost threw up!
I have received mine tore it down cleaned up polished and mounted my Nightforce 12-42x56 (I’m blind) I do have some polar biathlon and tons of other target stuff I truly hope these ain’t another 457 turd! I will post results today hopefully.

Put a trigger tech in this morning, see what happens today. Very clean light break. Went with the primary flat blade. Passed all safety checks. Going to mess with torque settings today. See what I can squeeze out of it.
Shot at 200 yesterday. Nice day until the wind kicked up. Managed a sub 3 inch 10 shot with tenex but once the wind picked up the tenex was blown all over the place lol

Not a lot of chatter at all about them. Hoping everyone has same luck as me

5 rounds of sk rifle Match.
Gun seems to have settled in nicely. No flyers and consistent groups. Got to shoot in still air this morning, much better then yesterday. Meets the sub moa guarantee by about 1/2. Very happy with my purchase, now to convince mdt to make me an ACC with a 16" forend. Like to try some tennex in it next.
Ammo, 5rounds?

What are typical target sizes for rimfire matches in moa? I shoot center fire prs but just looking to get into rimfire stuff to get extra matches in this year.

In another thread (post #28 https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1975193-Ammo-Testing-Temps/page3) you described results achieved with your Bergara using Eley Tenex ammo.

So I have shown you that my Bergara shot eley tenex to .1 at 50 1.25 at 100. Sk rifle match could only muster .25 at 50 but held a sub 1 inch group at 100, so not ipso facto the bullet that performed better at 50 did not perform better at 100, wether it is design or speed, spin, I don’t know. Can you explain. Please don’t say shooter, that’s why I did 20 round groups. Same day same environment, same technique.
Please explain for me so I know as well

Was the Tenex that you've been shooting with your Bergara all from the same lot? That is to say, was the ammo that gave you the excellent sub-three inch group at 200 yards from the same lot that gave you a .1" ten shot group at 50 but only a 1.25" group at 100 yards?
