Best 22 bolt action?

Hi guys, looking to pick up a 22 bolt action, which models offer the best bang for the buck? Also, anyone planning on attending the Dawson Creek gunshow?
 
I have heard good things about the CZ, so much so that I researched one at my local sporting goods store, they will bring me in a CZ 452 American for 499$, is this a good deal? Or is thier some other source I should be looking into?

Best bang for the bug IMHO is a used vintage Mossberg. :)
 
Yep, $499 is a good price. I remember the first CZ American I looked at in 2002. It was going for $375 at Hoyt sporting goods(I believe that's how it was spelled) which is now wholesale sports in Lethbridge.
 
If you aren't in a hurry, keep your eyes peeled for a old Brno (Models 1-5). They are often cheaper than new CZ's but beautifully built. Very accurate shooters.
 
Dollar for dollar, the CZ 452 and 453 are the way to go. I have a feeling they will really jump in price in the next little while. It seems the secret is out about them. Go for a quality .22 rifle. You won't regret it. Also consider the 77/22 by Ruger, the T-bolt by Browning, or if you really want to get in over your head, the Kimbers. I'm eyeing up one of these right now.
 
Bought a CZ 452 earlier this year, using Mini-Mags, I shot two five shot 50yd groups that were all touching. This was while I was sighting it in with my scope. Can't get any better than that!

But at 499 plus tax its quite a jump for my first rimfire!

What would you guys recommend for sub 300$ guns?

(I will keep my eyes open at the gunshow in april thou!)

This is the same design as a CZ452, but with handmade, old world, eastern block craftsmanship to boot. Cheaper than a new CZ452 to boot! I have a model 4 and won't part with it for anything!;)

I couldn't agree more. THey are great little shooters. Cheap to buy and somewhat easy to find.

As for a new gun the Savage line is pretty good. Not quite as nice as a CZ, but eh extra $ could go to optics.

April? There's a bunch of us coming from FSJ for the Sportsman show but we were told it was March 24-25 this year :confused: I'll call Corlanes today and confirm the date. As for the .22 question...I'll take a Kimber if you're buying :D

Don't get into that line of thinking. This will be the best money you spend. You may have a $1000 hunting rifle, with a $500 scope. But how much do you shoot it? I garuntee no where as much as you'll shoot a .22 rifle. You will put thousands of rounds through it a year, neglect it, bang it and in other words, use it. That's where I would suggest putting your money. Everyone should know the joys of owning a good .22. And you'll be proud as a new papa wandering around the woods or fields with a beautiful rifle.

It is funny that we quite often regret cheaping out but rarely ever regret buying quality.
 
Do you have a budget range? $200? $500? $1,000?

Is your only concern accuracy?

What about wood vs plastic, blued steel versus stainless?

Sorry bigbore, you are right, its the 24th-25th.

As far as the CZ 452 goes, you guys convinced me!

Ill keep my eyes open next weekend, and if I dont find anything at the show, Ill order that rifle through Corlanes.

My philosophy exactly, it never ceases to amaze me that a person will spend big bucks on a bigger calibre hunting set up, that rarely (in a lot of cases) get's shot more than a few times a year, but cringes at the thought of spending more than a few hundred dollars on a 22 rifle that will get shot a heck of a lot more ?
