Please suggest a specific rifle in and around $2000 that is actually available now. I'd prefer one that takes PMags. The rifle is for target use only. I have done a search, but am having a hard time locating any in Canada other than irunguns. Thanks in advance for your help!

For a $2000 AR308 target rifle you have three choices. 1) Armalite 10I(t) but availability is an issue and it doesn't use Pmags. , 2) DPMS LR308 but availability is an issue 3) Rock River Arms. But I don't recommend this one as it uses FN FAL mags.

So DPMS LR308. Also Remington R25 although not really a target rifle it is the best deal and is a camo DPMS. If you can find one of those for cheap and then find a match barrel you'll have a decent target rifle for under $2000.

Personally I prefer the Armalite and I own both Armalite rifles and a DPMS LR308.

The OP says for target use only. In Canada, all AR's are target guns. It's not like we can hunt with it. Unless he's looking at a competition AR.

The beauty of the AR10 style is the accuracy potential. Most are setup for DM or target use. IE SS match barrels. With the extra weight, size and cost of 308 ammo most have been in the target or DM style. It's only fairly recently that the patrol rifle style has become so popular in the 308 AR. The OP also said he already has a Sig 716 which is a patrol style piston AR rifle. So precision target would seem to be what is being asked.

For target use: Both of these have SS 24" match barrels on them. Both are very accurate.

Left DPMS LR308, Right Armalite AR10(t) DND model (Canadian military version).

We already have the Sig 716, and I love it. Any other suggestions?

Well it's a bit of a "long shot" and IRUNGUNS may? be able to source one? or you can do it yourself? but the Colt 901 comes to mind? it's not right at the $2000 price point, however a review was done in SWAT mag (Sept 2013) and it came out pretty well overall. The bonus is that you can "switch out" to a 5.56 upper with a "mag block adapter". Cheers

Any specific model in the Armalite and DPMS lines I should stick with?

It says the Colt is coming soon on the US irunguns site. This rife is a Christmas present so the Colt is probably out.

I've seen a few R25s on the EE in the $1200-$1400 range. They already have a FF. forend so you're left with $600-$800 to play with to get to your price point. That would buy you the best match barrel available with lots of coin left over for other do dads like an adjustable stock, etc. The advantage of the R25/LR-308/SR-25 platform is that it seems to be the one that the most accessories are available for eg. Magpul 308 Pmags plus a lot of other goodies.

What do you guys think of the Bushmaster 308?

I have the Bushmaster MOE .308, it's a very nice rifle. Embarrassed to say it but I've not had the opportunity to take it out yet so I can't comment on functionality beyond cycling dummy rounds.

Wolverine has them for a shade under $1700.

With the Armalite the Target model or if you're lucky one of the DND ones (they are rare). The Armalite is the better rifle. They do have a new model that takes Pmags. Even with the m14 style mags I prefer the Armalite. Also the target ones come with a NM trigger. I should also add the SASS version which is also very rare in Canada.

DPMS is harder. The LR308 has a huge 24" SS barrel 1:10 twist but they have some other models too with SS barrels. The SASS DPMS I think has SS as well but is more money. The LR308 is slick sided and 6061 aluminum. While their military marksman versions are 7075 and are regular sides but also more expensive and hard to get. So price wise and for target you're looking at the Lr308. Should add there is a fluted barrel option which looked cool. Questar was selling DPMS.

Originally the Armalites were 3K which was why I bought a DPMS. Now they are 2K. The DPMS is $1800 but... The trigger is stock milspec and crap. So add another $200 minimum to that. The Armalite has a NM trigger already. Both will shoot but the Armalite build is military while the DPMS feels commercial. Still a nice target rifle but I do like the Armalite better.

Wolverine sells Armalite. I'd get on a wait list for the new model target. Pmags compatible version. The biggest problem right now is availability. Irunguns etc as others have mentioned are also an idea.
