Best 'bang for buck" AR?

Nobody suggests the Windham? I Bought a Windham SRC as my first AR and its run like a champ. I've since bought a Core in .300BLK and built 2 more. It gets addictive. Also I have my Windham for sale on the EE(shameless plug). PM me for some more info if you want.

S&W M&P 15 Sport, It's got a nice price tag and the fit and finish was great. Mine was a great shooting rifle. Below is ten shots at 100 yds. I can't maintain a consistent sight picture to begin with and the 6X scope didn't help. I had my 4.5-14 on it to see what it could really do, but sold it before I had it to the range again. If it's your first it's a good starting point.

DD are great, but it have to get behind a KAC SR15 when you shoot them side by side, it is so obvious...Just saying... JP.

Not that I'm saying building an AR is a bad idea. I am saying building an AR is a bad idea if you haven't had one and had some time to evaluate what you do and do not like.

Hmm...let me guess he sells parts. Ok let's be clear...what silly cigar puffing guy is talking about is fashion. It may be about making it better to some degree but listen to what he's saying...cool kids etc. He's sitting there puffing on a stogie taking at us because he knows his market. That market is selling stuff to guys who will NEVER be satisfied with it as it is.

Can Can, are you doing this to have a cool rifle or a rifle to shoot? If it's to look cool get yourself a Nork and some really cool duds. They'll never notice your shooting a Chinese Clone while they are dazzled by those threads.

He is trying to be funny but knows his stuff and hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned. I took a recent AR Armourers Course at Taccord and have been bitten by the build bug. So many advantages to it! You get to know your AR very well in the end too.

I've been researching that option, but it seems more fiscally prudent to buy a ready-made AR, unless I'm missing something???

Paul

You do save a LITTLE. But some AR assembly requires special tools the savings get mostly eaten up. I built a 12.5 inch gun and saved maybe 100 bucks. If you build multiple guns the tool costs are spread out over several guns and it gets better. With the low cost of AR's right now, unless you want something truly odd, buying built is the way to go. For me I would buy a norinco/ DA from Canada ammo. Stay away from NEA. You pay more than a Norc for a less reliable poorly assembled gun.

best bang for the buck AR ? Take a look at the Ruger. In my work I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by AR's of all types/manufacturers and if I was going to buy a factory built gun it's the one I would pick. Yes, the DD's, LMT's and KAC's are very nice guns and worth every penny to those who have bought them, but what do they do that the Ruger won't ?

i don't think any of the available choices are bad, some just trade on name brand recognition and charge extra for the "real operator's use this" mystique. How many people that aren't professional operators need the $500.00 light or $3K scope etc (remember the question was bang for buck, wanting something vs needing it kind of takes it out if the "bang for buck" category).

I like well built stuff as much as the next guy but I wonder what makes a KAC worth so much more. I was looking at the new Cadex rifle at the SHOT show and while I really want one I'm damned if I can figure out what makes it worth the $6K asking price (I'm not anti Cadex, I ordered a Field Strike chassis for my 700 the day I got back from SHOT. That was absolutely a "want" over "need" purchase)!!!

All good man, I know what your saying. If anyone could be labeled as "Prick" it would be me not you.

I'm not saying your wrong either. Just trying to say keep it simple for the moment.

To put it in perspective I've had two and now I want two. One with a 20" 5.56 and a 10" in 300 BLK or perhaps a 9mm, both with a removable carrying handle. I'd even say A2 upper but I need a scope to work up a load.

I really like your AR by the way...Just like the essential parts to be as idiot proof as possible for me.

Those dam KAC are so accurate even with cheap Barnaul ammo 62 gr, i was really impress of their performance... JP.
