Best 'bang for buck" AR?

mines a nork too, unfortunately not a lot to add other than mines got the 14.5" barrel, it sits stock with the irons, 500 shipped is quite accurate and reliable and I now love it!! I have shot many better guns for sure but don't want caught up in the 2-3k mark on this thing as I cant even take the damn thing to camp with me, which pisses me off, if that changes I will buy more expensive.

For the guys touting the Norcs I agree. They get a lot of haters but they run and run. I have a couple and never had an issue. Only drawback is if you want to go to the US for matches you can't bring them. I tried to add to my form 6 but they only approved everything that wasn't Norc. Some have squeezed their Norcs down there due to sleeping agents approving forms but I got a detailed explanation from them on why they aren't allowed. I recently took advantage of a crazy deal one of the CGN dealers had for the 20" DA AR for $399 and it runs great and is super accurate.

All good man, I know what your saying. If anyone could be labeled as "Prick" it would be me not you.

I'm not saying your wrong either. Just trying to say keep it simple for the moment.

To put it in perspective I've had two and now I want two. One with a 20" 5.56 and a 10" in 300 BLK or perhaps a 9mm, both with a removable carrying handle. I'd even say A2 upper but I need a scope to work up a load.

I really like your AR by the way...Just like the essential parts to be as idiot proof as possible for me.

Kind of daydreaming here, i was wondering what would be my choice of firearms to pick, in case the SHTF and it was easy the KAC for a rifle , my Les Baer 1911 as a pistol, never thought of that before, funny exercise... JP.

I say buy one then build one. The one you buy you can customize a bit and get familiar with it and after a while you are wiser in the ways of the AR and are better able to make choices based on your experience with it.

DD was a great choice for me at $1299 in '13 now they're $1700 so maybe another first AR at the $1000 price point makes more sense in the BBFTB category.

Best bang for buck is subjective as you can tell.

- Goes bang for least amount of dollars spent: Norinco/Dominion Arms
- Considered lower tier but they just work: DPMS, POF etc
- Considered low to mid tier but just work, around 1000-1200: Stag, Core15, Wyndham Armoury, Bushmaster
- Same as above but have cool name so cost a bit more: Spike's, Daniel Defense, BCM
- Same as above but have cooler name so cost even more: Sig, Noveske
- Actually have features above and beyond previous tiers: KAC, LWRC, Seekins, ATRS (gen4 lower only), LMT Piston

Just my opinion.

Stag Model 0R - basically a police spec patrol carbine (well actually IS a police patrol carbine) for just over $1K - proper materials, testing and construction, lifetime warranty to original purchaser in Canada the gun can be fixed without leaving the country, but given the spec, it's unlikely you'll need it. Ever hear anyone complain about Arms East? Me either.

I am looking to wade into the AR realm for the first time...I am looking at a Bushmaster...seems the best route for me to start with.

I looked at the DPMS and was really thinking about it. I then held the Bushmaster and found it to be built a little more solid, although I am sure the DPMS is fine. Just my own personal opinion that is all. I too am just starting to get into the AR's. I would take the DPMS over the Norinco.

The original: Colt

Other than nostalgia, non tangible/quantifiable factors...
- Is the quality really better than others in it's tier? (standard milspec package, with no add ons - if so, what is it? - Is the finish better than Core15? Is it tighter than a Bushmaster?)
- Are the components really that much better than other vendors? (i.e. are the barrels better than Noveske or FN or DD?, is the LPK superior to DPMS? or is the buffer tube stronger than Wyndham's?)
- Is it competitively priced? (again for a standard milspec package, with no addons)

For a DI rifle, Stag/Bushmaster/Wyndham/Core15 are its direct competitors with way better warranties and pricing (even the recent deals once conversion etc are all accounted for). For added features like enhanced bolts, ambi bolt release etc KAC, LWRC and ATRS has it beat hands down.
