Best Battle Rifle?

I doin't think the mauser would do too well in a door to door setting?

well perhaps if your adversary is equipted with a club you'de be on equal terms :D

From what I've used I like the FN, M14 is not bad but the pistol grip on the FN makes it a lot nicer to shoot

now if your going house to house then a battle rifle is not what you need.

you need an assault rifle or carbine

Battle rifles Canadians can own:

Bolt action rifles
Steyr Mannlicher M95
Ross
MAS-36
Mauser 98
SMLE Lee-Enfield
Carcano M91
Arisaka 38 and 99
Mosin-Nagant
K31
Winchester M1895
M1903 Springfield
M1917 US Enfield

Self-loading rifles
FN SAFN-49
ZH-29
Vz.52 and Vz.52/57
MAS-1949 and 49/56
FG-42
G43 / K43

AVS-36 Simonov
SVT-38 SVT-40 Tokarev
SKS Simonov
AG-42 Ljungman
Mondragon
M1 Garand

Battle Rifle

I think some of the best battle rifles I have ever had are: In Order

Second Pattern AK-47 Worked like a dream, smoothest thing I ever shot. Only thing that P***ed me of was no hold open device like my Yugo.

Valmet 223
Galil 7.62
FN C1
FN C2
Winchester M14
AR-15
AR-180
FNC
H&K G3,

I don't think we can own a FG-42, the where select fire were they not?

I would assume no one picked the SVD because it's intended and designed to be a sniper rifle/DMR? I'm also assuming you mean SVD as in Dragunov SVD?
Don't need "Dragunov" before SVD; Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova.

Albayo, we are discussing present rules as they stand today. It is more inclusive that way.
Canadians cannot have semi automaitcs with the 308 caliber save for the one as mentioned above.

This is why we must demand a change to the laws ASAP.

There is another you missed... the Valmet M78 in .308 is unrestricted. She's a heavy pig but gets the job done.

You know what? We've missed the original battle rifle, the Brown Bess. She served longer then any other weapon to date, and has probably fought in as many or more campaigns. Better then anything else when she came out as far as durability and reliability, and it's pretty hard to argue against the stopping power of a .750 diameter soft lead ball.........

The stoner 63 is the pride of the Navy Seals and is one heck of a semi auto weapon. The stoner 63 weighs a little bit more than an infantry rifle and carries a heck of a lot more ammo, the more rounds the better without the weight.

huh?

Seals used/tested stoners in Vietnam, along just about anything that went boom. It's supposed to be a decent weapons system, since there were rifle and belt fed lmg versions. And I believe they were auto. Dont know what the bit about more more ammo than an infantry rifle is about, the infantry rifle of the US since Vietnam has been the M16, and both shoot the same ammo.

Anyways, the "suggested" battle load for riflemen in the manuals is just some random number thought up by some faceless drone that probably will never have to use any of it. Seriously, are you going in with 5 mags and 2 bandoliers of stripper clips? or are you carrying as many full mags as you can?

SVD is actually more of a "battlerifle" than a sniper rifle. It was designed so one man in a sov unit had the ability to engage targets out past 300 meteres.
There was even a pic of a US soldier in iraq using a SVD with no scope.
I think the soviets must have had a FAL in front of them when they designed the SVD.
I would give the Enfield the edge over the M305 if I was looking for a legal canadian battle rifle because of the 10 round mags. I would love to make a socom 16 clone with an enfield as the base instead of the m14 then you would have a wicked handy little rifle that could empty a 10 round mag pretty fast. You could do it in 308 but I would be concerned about feeding and ejecting cartridges. 303 rounds are as popular as 308's in my neck of the woods anyway.

Unsub

What about taking a Bubba #4, having the barrel cut back and wooded with Jungle Carbine wood for the front stock. Would make an interesting hybrid.

Take Care
