Best concealed carry gun

Those lightweight Smith revolvers are painful to shoot - so painful in 357 that 5 had better be enough, because you won't be shooting for a couple of weeks after using one, from experience, not at all recommended. After 5 rounds you will have difficulty closing your hand, and I was shooting a lot of 38's through J Frames when I took that particular mugging - you'd be better off with a Casull, or DE in 50. I'd go with my M&P9, IWB in my Raven, for ammo probably Speer or Hornady controlled expansion.

The very mention of wheelguns makes me think about my 5 shot S&W Model 37 airweight, too.

I'd be just as happy carrying that one, too.

My 'go to' would still be the G22 .40 cal, though.

FN Five-Seven with its 20 round magazine*. And I'd keep the FN P90 with it's 50 round mag* hooked to the saddle of my unicorn.

* Since we're fantasizing about legal CCW we might as well fantasize about no magazine limitations.

In a self defense situation it is what happens now that matters not what happens in two weeks. I would be very confident in a self defense situation with a small S&W chambered in 357.

I think it would be prudent to carry the gun I shoot best..handle best..reload/clear jam fastest, point most naturally, etc.

But..Im going to wager that in many cases (mine anyway) these are often large framed, heavier competition pistols..the ones we shoot most.

These would be less suitable for everyday carry, due to weight and size, particularly if you are of smaller stature, are constantly on the move, what have you.

So I would likely pick a polymer gun, be it a Glock or an M&P, 9mm or 40. Then, in the imaginary land where I was granted the ATC..I would have to shoot it until I could handle it as well as favorite or competition guns.

I've shot one some and didn't enjoy the experience. Very snappy feel. 1911 is so much more relaxing. That said, if I needed to take something that concealable, the quality is fantastic. Great backup. I would tend to the HK45C but the thread protector needs to be more elegant.

I'm surprised no one has said Walther PPK.

Though I don't have one, so if I could get an ATC I would carry my 1911.

It's very hard to get good hits when your hand has gone numb from the second shot, and virtually impossible to reload when you have no feeling in your finger tips - never mind what a 10 inch fireball from a 1-7/8 barrel does to your vision - even in daylight.

Thanks Nutz...some very interesting options here. Of course I can't legally carry, but I was thinking, again in an ideal world, about a restricted (not prohib), as small and concealable as legally possible, as snag-free as possible, can carry it with one in the pipe with no worries, and ultra-reliable. I shot a Glock 17 many many years ago and didn't care for the feel of it, but it sounds like a 23 or something similar might fit the bill, or at least be worth another look 20+ years later.
